Used to do it with stobarts and I don’t miss the place it’s downright dangerous … I’ve seen a guy pick up a pump truck not having a clue how it works and ploughed it full steam into a pallet of uht milk and it wasn’t a pretty sight

I would not be at all surprised if that was deliberate. …
To be honest, if you tell Aldi that you don’t know how to use a pump truck, they’ll show you. And let’s be fair, if you have trouble using a pump truck, perhaps you shouldn’t be in charge of a 44ton truck…

Yes absolutely but that being said most drivers just say yes and sign the sheet…

Just done aldi Chelmsford.in and out in 45 mins.

I’ve only encountered Aldi Bathgate and Lidl Livingston.
Aldi is easy and quick no hassle but Lidl are an absolute waste of space!! Turned up last Sat at 1000 for a 12 booking, stood at the goods in window for 45 mins before the ■■■■■■ behind it opened the wee sliding hatch to hand in the paperwork, then he made the 5 other drivers behind me wait the same as me! Drive round the back and get told to park up and they will get me in about 4-5 hours.
Frozen load which was booked for 12 yet Lidl Livi only take this load at 6am every Sat they say. You cant win with them!
I have heard a lot of drivers complain about the rest of the depots too! Shambles

Don’t mind an Aldi tip at all, Bathgate is pretty good, the staff are decent, always space for your stuff and the pump barrows actually work.

Would do 5 Aldi a week rather than one lidl a month.

The main building or the smaller one round the corner?

Had issues before with massive delays at the main one yet 200 yards away and they are absolutely golden. My record in that one was 33 pallets of bottled water tipped in about 15 mins and they did it all on the stand on fork lifts without me touching the load, as it was quiet that morning.

This all started years ago when Netto Aldi and such like insisted drivers unloaded themselves ,it should have been stamped out then ,firms with job worth drivers who wont say no and hauliers backing down and letting the drivers do it they take the [zb] ■■■■ that why they can sell [zb] in there shops for [zb] all because there running costs are low you see more people in there warehouses picking up bits of shrinkwrap than you do tipping trls and running stock away I wonder if the aldis and such do this anywhere else in Europe

Surprised in todays H&S culture the driver is allowed to tip!
In our oil service yard the driver is sent into a bus shelter type “safe haven”. Only on the yard to unstrap and restrap.

Do you take the keys off the naughty driver as well?

Well as a lab tech I’d have no use for a drivers keys but the yard crew don’t either.
As an ex driver I’ve made the point about the driver directing loading but been HSE’d to a standstill for it.
This was because a driver “getting on” climbed onto a trailer being unloaded and nearly got killed when some tooling fell on him. In my mind he was daft and lucky or unlucky depending how you see it.

Main building,I think.
Straight through barrier, and Bays on right.

I delivered a container to Aldi Darlington, imagine my delight when I have to sign where it says “I know how to use an electric pallet truck”

“But, I don’t”

After an exhaustive 30 second lesson I’m compliant. I knew that Aldi drivers had to tip into stores, I didn’t know random drivers had to at the NDC. They must be saving a fortune on warehouse staff.

That’s how they keep costs down, which is reflected in the low prices in yhe shops.

And they both pay their staff better, the Living wage, not just the minimum wage.

Hi there,

A few days ago I saw Lidl asking for hauliers, I am also looking to become an owner operator. I was wondering how much Lidl pay on average.

Thanksm

I was in Lidl Livingston on Tues for 10am (my book time) sat for ages eventually tipped and came out at 1500.
Not really fussed, paid by the hour, so just read my book.

Saw a guy struggling to do a blind side on the bay around all the parked trucks, saw everybody sat watching him :unamused: , so I got out to help him.
That is until I saw his mate, same co, other driver sat on his arse in the same truck in the passenger seat, …what a useless ■■■■. :open_mouth: :unamused: .
Just turned around shaking my head, to my nice warm cab.
He eventually gave up, jacknifed it, and backed on his good side.

lidl southampton are ok, pleasant goods in lasses, always straight onto a bay, just takes an age for the paper work, but no hard ship

Their Chilled side isn’t too bad regarding paperwork. Usually 3/4 of the way through checking the pallets by the time I’m done getting the lot off. (And quite often break them down themselves whilst I carry on dragging them off the trailer).

Done the new one at Bolton, yesterday.
Good tip.

I get paid to drive trucks ( hence the ad HGV driver wanted ) and as far as im concerned, thats what im paid to do. So when my boss gave me a delivery in LIDL Erith, i refused to tip it, unless he paid extra, once £30 had been agreed, i unloaded it…just my principles.

A good firm I once worked for gave me a tenner for every drop I tipped myself, handy when you had about 10 drops on.
Get absolutely jack ■■■■ off present co.

There’s the argument for a quick turnaround (yeh right :unamused: ) and getting a bit of excercise, but when you think about it, and whether you agree with the self tipping or not, …it IS a complete ■■■■■■■■■ end of.

Was in there this morning, 4 pallets for the freezer but they were having massive problems of some description (I suspect over ordering tbh) but I explained to them that as I had stuff on for other customers I’d like to rebook it for 6am tomorrow. Not a problem, very helpful and with a good attitude too. Obviously that’ll change once they get used to the grunting Neanderthals abusing them!

Your boss agreed to pay £30 for less then half an hours work? ■■■■■■■■.
