How do you replace the best?

Hat coat…gone!

Nice S26 that, all the S26’s out here were badged as Scammell’s.

Here’s a couple of pics of my good mate’s 1970 Octopus. It has been re-power with a TL11 and has a 13 speed Fuller. A great truck to drive. On the back is an AEC MM8, with a beaver cab up on top. Took her out today,go’s bloody well and sounds a treat.

those two on the back look in tip top condition !!

G’day,

Great from afar, but far from great Curnock mate. The Beaver cab up on top is actually in pretty good nick for an Ergo cab,not too much rust.

The MM8 cab though has had a knock above the windscreen and the moths have been at the cab a bit,but saddly it’s the double skin chassis that has started to ‘grow’ on it that is the real headache. It was a tanker all it’s life, started off a a whey tanker and finished up carting de-icer. She would have to be stripped right back.

Here’s another ‘Kiwi’ style Leyland for you.

Apologies to Graham Edge for pinching this pic from his great book on Leylands , if you havent got a copy i would buy one as it is one of the best books on Leylands around in my opinion.

What year`s the MM8 Jamie?

I’m not 100% mate but I think the MM is a 67 or 68. Although I could well be wrong as it has the mirrors in the later postion.

Here’s another Kiwi ‘special’ for you and what a ripper.

It’s an Octopus again,re-powered with a 250 ■■■■■■■■■■■■ Jake Brakes. Fitted with a 13 speed Fuller.

What a weapon, not only would it go good up hill but would pull up up going down hill.

I really do think if Leyland had offered ■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■ or CAT motors with Fuller boxes as a factory option they would have sold a lot more trucks.

Don’t get me wrong there’s nothing wrong with Leyland engines, but a bit more horse and a more flexable gear box is always a winner. Esspecialy at 40 plus tonne.

Nice one Jamie. keep em comming. cheers mick.

Leyland Marathon fitted with the ■■■■■■■ engine.

Nice shot of the Bibby tanker John,Henry Cooke the Mill at Beetham we ran out of were owned by J.Bibby and when the Mill went all artic with their own fleet they got an old Bibby Scammell tractor from L’Pool as a shunter,it had the 6LW engine. Then 2 or 3 years later they got a replacement, this time one with a Leyland 680 engine similar to the one in your shot! Cheers Dennis.

Lovely motor for the job, Jonsered or similar crane, will still be going in 30 years, even if only used in the forests.

That McKelvie motor with the tartan bumper is great, they could certainly turn out a pretty paint job could the socks.
