Yea Larry,Colin senior was our contact when delivering fuel to Sandy Lane, always good to get on with and down to earth.

We bought this Leyland Terrier for £1.200. It was a snip, My son drove it at the young age of 20, It earned its keep, & apart from a few head gaskets

it allways passed it yearley MOT first time, Regards Larry.

The same Leyland Terrier loaded for the off, Regards Larry & Nigel.

Lawrence Dunbar:
0Very smart Leylandsto say the least, Im a Leyland man myself ran a few of them ourselves & had good service from all of them, This Reiver was terrific it never once let us down it did local & ditance work all the time with a 17 Tonne Plus Payload & good on fuel, Regards Larry.

That has a decent size body on it Larry, what sort of work did you mainly do with it?

Cheers
Mark

It was a 20 Ft body we did long distance stuff, mainley wallpaper out of The House Of Mayfair at Cramlington, plus other stuff, We allways looked at traffic where we could re-load back from, Our Nigel who drove this motor was on the ball all the time , he had a lot of knowledge of Hauliers al over the British Ilse where he could get return loads from, & He did make a bob or two with this 7 & a half tonner, He went on to pass his class one & drove this Seddon Aki for a while & then his new Roadtrain,Regards Larry.

The cab on this Leyland tipper looked remarkedly rust-free.
The driver has climbed up the side , and is probably saying " Fill er up , theres plenty of room on top " !!

Taken at Victoria , Gozo , - Malta`s little sister island , 2 weeks ago.

Cheers , cattle wagon man.

Nice shot to say the least, Its nice to a classic B/Leyland motor still in use, Regards Larry.

Here are a couple of Leylands at the yard of Denis Salt of Longford, the Reiver KUE 526 V in the foreground had just been painted ready for the road after being purchased from Tarmac, Cauldon Lowe. In the background can just be seen a Clydesdale BRE 476 T which had also been in the paint shop. Both these lorries ran in Ballidon Quarry near Ashbourne around 1985/6. Denis ran all types of lorries over the years he also ran a lorry repair business and at one time had a coal round, he also tried his hand at the licensed trade when he ran The Wheatsheaf pub in Wirksworth.

Is that the Reiver that Arthur Salt (no relation) drove Rob, I guess that the Clydesdale was Duncan’s as it looks to tidy to have been Jim’s (RIP) and they certainly got through some work back in those days when you had to keep your mirror’s in! Good pics, and good memories as well.

Pete.

Heres a few leylands.Operated by Dodds Transport. When they only operated Brit motors.
The black Hitachi wagon and drag demounts were Stretched crusier tractor units with 260 engines and spicer boxes 10 speed.Dodds operated a few on this contract. They were some lorry i can tell you,I loved mine.
Stay lucky Mick

Twin Steer from 50’s

A great photo, This chinese six is an earley 50s example of Leylands Quality motors, Notice the greedy boards tappered so as to try & avoid overlaoding on the back axle which was a bit difficult, The W/Ms used to target this sort off wagon all the time in those days, Regards Larry.

An old Henry Long Leyland RAF i think

Another Steer on its maiden voyage from Consett to Rotherham.

Here is a 1949 Leyland Octopus owned by me.

What is the history of this vehicle? I lived near the Taunton Cider works at Norton Fitzwarren and do not recall ever seeing this vehicle. Certainly the registration is not Somerset. However, I did see Bedford O type chassis that carried square tanks that were removable.
