I just picked up one on thursday evening. It has an L12 and 6 speed box, It’s on the button and starts with ease! It’s a 1979 model and was new to Texaco. It needs minor bits welded on the cab but it’s in overall great condition I need an exhaust, two door panels and a windscreen rubber if anyone knows of any?
Cheers
John
recall a trip in the L12 Buff I once drove , picked up a backload from a wharf in London , tinplate for american can in rugby , there was no weights printed on the bulks , so a “suit” comes out of the office & decides there two tons a pack , right 10 packs 20 ton , loaded & off we go , pulling up black rock the old girl was struggling & getting warm , so pulled into the layby half way up , rang the boss moaning that the old girl is shagged & wants burning , when she cooled , set off again & fair play she tugged up & to amcan with no further problems , started unloading & the fork lift driver tells me “Icant lift those bulks off till iv’e split them & do you realise how much weight youve got on !!” only then ilooked at the trailer , it was like a bannana , turns out they were strapped in packs of 2 , I had nearly 30 T on the trailer !!! , changed my attitude towards the Buff & taught me never trust a “suit” , still a noisy , uncomfortable sod though !!
Have a 1979 Leyland Buffalo Tractor Unit for Sale in very good condition. It has an L12 engine, 2 speed gearbox, 4 brand new tyres on the back and a pair of new batteries. Anyone interested please contact me on rmrplants@yahoo.com. Truck location: Malta. Will ship to worldwide.

Our shop steward’s AV760 with “fettled” Bosch pump used to spit flames from the exhaust (looked spectacular at night!) and couldn’t be caught by the new ERFs with ■■■■■■■ 205 empty or loaded.Hiya did’nt the 205 ■■■■■■■ have the 10speed fuller that only give 54mph the 9 speed come later that was faster.
most of the AEC’s was flying machines. bird,s eye frozen foods had 80mph machines. theirs a write up in a classic
commercial About the fast mk5 AEC,s that Adams butter had.My AEC was low speed diff,s but now she has 60 mph plus.
i don’t use the speed its just less revs at 50mph.

Hi, John,
The ERF 8-wheelers still had David Brown 6-speeders when we got them. The Big J artics with the same engine had 6-speed AEC boxes. The Brown’s box gave us around 52mph as I remember, whereas the two Guys that I had would do almost 60.
Still not a patch on the Mercury that I had before. After the fitters had worked their magic on the pump she was good for just under 75, complete with exhaust flames!
So, can anyone tell me what sort of horsepower the TL12 fitted to the marathon had?
MARATHON TL12 was 275/280 ROADTRIAN was 283 flexi tourqe
Leyland were good at matching transmission to engine on Buffalo and Badger for instans , AEC had those aufull gearboxes in 6 cylinder mandators , effect of dropping 40 horse !

Deiseldog 66 were u at Banbury buildings when they had Leyland comets.
Only just seen this post, there was only one Comet Ergo Cab at Coventry, never saw one at Banbury depot either, I was mate on the Comet after a while, it pulled no better than the albion’s but atleast the heater worked.

Our C205s came in 8-wheeler ERF (6-speed DB) and Big J (AEC 6-speed).
I later drove a Big J on low loader work with a C205 and 10-speed Fuller (air-op clutch brake knob on the gear lever).
Sooo I’ve just watched a clip of the 1972 Commercial Motor Show. There is a gentleman on there talking about this that and the other however behind him is a Super Buffalo. What was a Super Buffalo■■?
Ha! Didn’t know there was a Leyland Buffalo thread! Never drove one. Here are some useful bits from my archives. Robert

And this Leyland Buffalo did the Middle-East run! Robert
Not sure how to link but if you type I D mcsporran leyland in to Flickr theres a preserved ergo super buffalo in Australia. Theres a white 3 axle tractor unit also in Flickr in Australia. Must be an Australian model? Never heard of one before.
Typing leyland super buffalo into Flickr reveals several examples in Australia and new Zealand, guess I should of tried that first! Hope that helps.
Cheers, I had a wee look. I wondered did a super buffalo have a different engine or was it just a re badge for a different country? I love looking at all the different variations of the sleeper cabs grafted onto the back of the day cab. Some look really good and well done some…some not!
