The May 1940 War Cabinet Crisis in the United Kingdom was a notable episode in World War II when the British Empire might have sued for peace. The role of Winston Churchill was instead decisive in the continuation of the war.
In May 1940, the fate of the world, the future of an empire, and the destiny of a nation rested with two men; Winston S. Churchill, the newly appointed British Prime Minister and Edward Wood 3rd Viscount Halifax, the British Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs. Both of these men passionately believed in saving Britain from the military nightmare they been placed in by ■■■■ Germany. However their approaches to achieving this were radically different. Halifax believed that it might be possible to secure a peace treaty with Germany that would safeguard British independence as well as its imperial interests. On the other hand, Churchill believed that German dictator Adolf Hitler would only honour such a treaty whilst it served his own interests. Instead Churchill favoured a continuation of the conflict at all costs until final victory was secured.

on 23 November 1983
The Security Council,
Having considered the situation prevailing in northern Lebanon,
Recalling the statement made on this question by the President of the
Council on 11 November 1983 (S/16142),
Deeply concerned by the intensification of the fighting, which continues to
cause much suffering and great loss of human life,
-
Deplores the loss of human life caused by the events taking place in
northern Lebanon, -
Reiterates its call for the strict respect for the sovereignty,
political independence and territorial integrity of Lebanon within its
internationally recognized boundaries; -
Requests the parties concerned immediately to accept a cease-fire and
scrupulously to observe the cessation of hostilities; -
Invites the parties concerned to settle their differences exclusively
by peaceful means and to refrain from the threat or use of force; -
Pays tribute to the work done by the United Nations Relief and Works
Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East and by the International
Committee of the Red Cross in providing emergency humanitarian assistance to the
Palestinian and Lebanese civilians in Tripoli and its surroundings; -
Calls upon the parties concerned to comply with the provisions of this
resolution; -
Requests the Secretary-General to follow the situation in northern
Lebanon, to consult with the Government of Lebanon, and to report to the
Council, which remains seized of the question.

Following the end of the Cold War, a number of upgrade packages have emerged for the SA-3, mostly involving digital upgrades to the radar and guidance package. The Polish Army pursued an extensive upgrade part of which involved converting the system to a fully mobile design, under the Newa-C and -SC effort. Initially, it was intended that the SNR-125 Low Blow and 5P73 be carried on a CTM-2 (T-55) tank chassis, but the vibration and size of the vehicle proved incompatible with the radar. The second iteration was to rebuild surplus 9P117 Scud TELs, to carry both the radar and launcher. The latter proved technically successful but the supply of Scud TELs was not sufficient to support the program, and a compromise using the tank chassis for the TEL was adopted. Polish sources claim the marketing of this upgrade to India was blocked by the Russian government.
