I started the process of getting my license before covid started and had a few money issues so was slow being able book the practical test - then covid happened and I’m left with 4 months before my theory and hazard tests run out.
I’ve got a class 2 test booked in Leighton Buzzard at the end of the month - I’m a bit stressed about passing due to the theory and hazard test running out.
Was hoping if possible that I could get some info on test routes or even the general directions that you took for your test at the test centre so I could have a drive around in preparation?

Haven’t you done all your training on the test routes?
Does your training provider offer some form of pass protection? Something like 2 or 3 resits for the price of one, if paid upfront. I find it takes the pressure off.
Hi,
I did my test there last week and the examiner happened to mention that the week before he had worked out 4 routes to choose from and on the day of my test he was down to 2 because they had altered road works. My instructor also told me that normally he would have taken me on all the possible routes but couldn’t because of the roadworks.
The route I went on for test was mostly unknown to me as 2/3rd’s of the route I hadn’t travelled on. Saying that, there was nothing that wasn’t manageable. I don’t live in the area but there does seem to be loads of roadworks there, or at least where I went.
Roads are roads and everything you learn on the lessons stands you in good stead for the test. Good luck
Hi
Didn’t do Leighton Buzzard but I suspect the DVSA operate in a similar fasion. Bascially I trained as much as possible on the known routes but on my test I did drive a quarter of it on roads unknown to me. I think it depends on the examiner as they don’t have to stick to the pre-defined test route. If they’re not satisfied of your ability in a certain driving environment, they can take you down more of that if they want.
On my test he got most of the stuff out of the way within a mile loop of the test center (difficult right turn, 2x pull over and stop, 7.5T weight limit sign at a junction, crossroads with stop sign). After that the rest of the drive was general driving with nothing really specific that would catch you out. There is the 10 minute independant drive where the examiner just says ‘follow signs to X’ ‘Now follow signs to Y’.
I found the easiest way to fail, by far, was the possibility of causing cars to slow when pulling out at roundabouts and also clipping the inner kerb with the rear wheels at rounabouts. Both would be an insta-fail.
You could just call up the school, see which test center they use and then drive some of the roads and look at some maps of the area if you think it would help.
There is an easy way to establish the areas used for test. Get a map (virtual or real), stick a pin where the test centre is. Now draw a circle that reaches ten miles from the test centre. Anything in the circle is potential test route. Simples!
Every area has the odd tricky turn or odd road marking. Your trainer will ensure you’ve seen those during your training.
