That be Richard Webster I presume ?
Bit of a beard, always used to load out of Alexandra stone !
That was the old mans house, just off the LFE service road, Horace Websters yard was just behind, literally a glorified drive, where he got 2 M.A.Ns on & 1 on the road !
Hope you asked if he had any pics ?

Mmm, Alexandra Stone at Narborough. Are they still in business, we used to take limestone into there (and Forticrete at Glenfield) from Ballidon?

Just edited to say that it might have been Empire Stone at Narborough, anyway the question remains the same!

Pete.

Alexandra stone is still going, but hasn’t had any of there own lorries for a long time now.
Empire stone of narborough have long gone ! NT motors (narborough transport) used to do all there work, & when they finished, Smiths of Desford did it, all long gone now
Empire stones old place is a travis Perkins now, right on the level crossing In narborough !

Thank’s for that gunner, I was going back to the late 1980’s/early 90’s so guessed that things had changed a little since then! Empire Stone only had an occasional load whereas Forticrete took several eight wheeler loads some days.

Pete.

JohnsJan:
Thank you Pete 359 for that great tribute to John… I’m still in contact with Fred, we go back to the good old days when Fred worked in building and John delivered bricks from Desford Brick Yard in his little baby Lorry TAY 113H to the sites Fred was working on. All hand balled in those days & of course John held the record for being able to hold the most bricks in a long row. They used to look like brothers & very often had the same colour shirts on when we went out… Great record “Come On Eileen”

Thanks for the memories Jan. I knew John from the shows but I also enjoyed passing an hour or so in the office when I was in Leicester. John had some great views on how the industry was run.

Reg Morris Transport is indeed a housing estate , 14 houses I believe, no photos but I’m sure I could get some, he was my grandad
My father Ian is now a self employed agency driver and my auntie Stephanie Works part time at her village care home ,
I actually work at another old transport company ‘Federated’ if anybody remembers them?!?

Here is a federated AEC
