Leicester's Bygone's

colinwallace1:
spent a lot of saturday morning’s in Doug Harrison’s yard, the old railway siding’s at the junction of Blackbird Road and Parker Drive. Also used to go to a lot of the Metal Box depot’s with him,and Redland pipes at Potters Marston was a regular.Be good to see some pictures of the trucks on here if anyone has any.

Yes i also used to go on saturdays with my dad. Saturday was “Maintenance day”,i dont think too many jobs require that today.

Unreal maddad, never heard a mention of Harrison’s for years.Who is your dad?I can remember Frank Gill,Martin Holohan, Bob James,Dave Webster,Jim Riley and later Taffy. Do you have any pictures of the trucks?

Hi Paul, wondered if it was you,are you still with Samworth’s? I think the last time i saw your dad was at Melton Market.
Say hello to him for me.

Hiya Phantom.
I used to load out of Pinnacle’s when I worked for Reads of Peterborough. I guess that would have been sometime
around 76 - 78. We used to do sub-contract full-loads, usually to Holland and Germany for them. They also took any part-loads
that we had available, mostly originating in the Peterborough area. Don’t know if you can recall our blue Transcons at your
warehouse?

Beetie:
Bees transport from hinckley? Anyone remember?! Pics?!

I remember Bees transport very well, a company i used to work for in the wharehouse before i got my class 1 used to have a collection everyday from bees, the driver was an oldish chap quite tall, skinny, big moustache and always wore a flat cap and we used to call him the major… I’ve not long moved to a village not too far from hinkley and in the stable yard behind my house is an old Bees transport body, i’ll get some pics an try an figure out how to put them on…

Yes I remember Bees, I used to run night trunk with them, I drove for Woodwards of Barwell

There is an AEC mercury around 1960 (4 wheel van) that has been preserved and is on the show circuit

I can remember the Transcons ,I remember part loading out of Reads place in Peterborough but that was with the F88 so that was 78 - 79 we use to do most of the abroad work for Baker Perkins ooh the the good old days lol

I can recall a Pinnacle MAN 17t picking up from Baker Perkins when I was in there loading for somewhere in the UK.
Reads warehouse was on Oxney Road, Fengate, at the back of the Ford Tractor dealers.

Anyone know 'em?

hi chris,
i thought it looked like crick.we had some good classic commercial motor shows there, until the year 2000 when we finally outgrew it  also in shot is john’s lv erf,he later sold that one to a chap from the north east,he attends the shows with it and a period car transporter complete with old cars.the marathon of chris hiorns is on the other side of the picture, now owned by salop haulage.john ward and chris hiorns were the best of friends.chris drove john’s f88 in his funeral.
regards andrew.

Hi Andrew,
Could have sworn it was BP on the A5 couple of miles further up from Crick I took it, anyway hey ho, who cares as long as we enjoy the pics & can have a chat about the past! Is this the same Marathon as you saw in last shot? Surname not too clear on the door but looks like her!
Regards Chris
