Again fantastic pictures keep them coming!!! The Leyland comet tractor was similar to the first lorry T.W. Glover of Ravenstone bought in 1959 with a tipper body and a eaton two speed axle…it was very fast for the time and in the words of the rugby song “there was no way of stopping it” Mr Glover kept it for about 6 months then went onto Fodens with their air brakes !!.I didn’t know anyone who worked for Moores as I m from coalville (tipper country) I assume they hauled bricks and pipes.> Moores drivers were prohibited from picking up hitchhikers I never had any luck with their fleet as a school boy hitchhiking home after my regular detentions.

Bees transport from hinckley? Anyone remember?! Pics?!there used to be carpet express also in hinckley…but they was called another name before carpet express, can’t remember what it was now,…also john brindley transport in sharnford they still going…
Yeah i have an old work colleague who still works for brindleys, drives a very tidy 4 serie 530 v8, sounds just as good as it looks, and indeed goes!
eastcoasttrucker, my friend is Nathan, who would be the bosses son, although i now believe as i havent seen him for a while that he and a partner have brought the ‘old man’ out!
Not sure what vehicles they have themselves anymore, most of the stuff ive seen recently were jap 7.5 tonners, not worth a pic tbhWilkinsons Transport, Rochdale, Lancs opened a small depot on Gwendolen Road, Leicester in the mid 50s. My dad was one of 2 drivers to be the first to work in Leicester. In the days they were flats so plenty of roping and sheeting. They moved to Burbage, Leics around 1960 possibly a little before. I started working for them on my 15th birthday in 1963. I can’t remember the year but, they bought out Bees Transport of Hinckley. Eddy Wilkinson was the man. What a great company to work for and a better gaffer.
Wilkinson transport had a depot in Oakham & Nuneaton too.
Whereabouts were they on gwendolen road were they ? As I used to live just round the corner on st saviours rd.

7Hi, I’ve been reading through the thread. I have a few pics of old Leicester/Leicestershire firms. May jog a few memories, hope you enjoy.
Three Freg Volvo’s from Moores ended up blue in colour as STS from Albert Village brought them
Not a very good photo, taken at Ford & Slater Leicester about 1988/9. The black “Night rider” Roadtrain was a demo iirc. I think Simon Sergeant bought it.Obviously the Cruiser was part of the hire fleet, and I’d guess the tipper was one of Gerald Smiths.
i remember Gerald (Gerry) Smith from my time in ‘sorrel.was working with one of his ex-drivers at my present job…‘Fruitcake’ he was known as nice chat tho’,and a real grafter.

Gerry would’ve run 5 or 6 at one time, Constructors and ERF’s. Looks as if this Constructor had the common problem of the Rockwell back axle cracking at the top. That’s probably oil making the axle look clean.

Welcome coomsey !
Great insight into emmersons, up until a few years ago there was a White scania with an orange tipper with emmersons on the side with the Belton address, I take it it was related
