Left-Hand Drive EC-series ERFs

@ Bassman: well done that man! I can read all of it. I’ll have the LHD Olympic-cabbed one in the picture with the 14-litre ■■■■■■■■ Fuller and Rockwell options, please! Robert

I’d like to know quite what they mean by the ‘full range’ of Eaton-Fuller boxes. They mention SAMT, which was a semi-automatic Twin-splitter so I imagine they must include the manual Twin-splitter (though we do know that Twin-splitters didn’t take off over the pond). We know that 18-speed Fullers were offered in both ECs and the Western Star version. I wonder, though, if the 13-speed was included, or even the 9-speed (doubtful). :unamused: Robert

One of my overriding memories of the SAMT gearbox was watching one being taken out of a two month old EC and being replaced with a standard TwinSplitter.
This was done at our local ERF dealership and IRC because of the trouble involved with the SAMT box was done under warranty
Talk about a ball of knitting wool that,s what they’re pipes and cables looked like under that cab whilst the work was in progress.

Cheers. Bassman

I think a lot of SAMTs were converted back to manuals, especially where fitted to high-powered units to protect the gearbox from high torque loads. Eurostar 520s were a classic example. Robert

A complete surprise at Truckfest this weekend was this LHD EC-series ERF from Spain! It was an EC14 ■■■■■■■ job rather than the Detroit version. Robert

Some research on the internet…

Van De Graaf (Coevorden, Venlo, etc) was absorbed into the Penske-group, who also had ERF’s in their fleet

Snap! Robert

Rare but alive…

Didnt turners (me thinks) of hoole buy 2-3 of Spanish spec erf’s ■■ They brought them back over here and converted them back to rhd weren’t they the last ones left . erf certainly offered the Spanish more bang for their buck than what we got .

They were ECXs, not ECs. But you’re right and I believe there were several. One was even given a 13-speed Fuller 'box! Cheers. Robert

Here is something of an oddity: an ERF-built Western Star with LHD and on Dutch plates! Robert

This is a 08/07/1999 EC 14.52 ST 4X2, imported in the Netherlands on 28/11/2007.

Mine. Imported from France. Sold on to a chap in Bulgaria.

Here are two more images. I must say, I’ve completely lost my appetite for these LHD ERF ECs. It is quite clear that that not a single one of them possessed a decent gearbox (by which I mean constant mesh - transmission snob that I am!). Never mind eh: there is still the LHD E-series, which at least had the wonderful Eaton Twin-splitter! Robert

Oh, all right then: just one more! Robert
