Left-Hand Drive B-series ERFs

The question of UK manufactured ■■■■■■■ engines v US is a seperate issue to the ultimate timeline of the big cam.I think the small cam was available in 290 form and like all the rest available long before 1976.While it would be correct to say that the big cam was probably available in the US market and probably to import from 1976.While the UK operation obviously took a bit longer in getting the big cam into production and availability.

‘‘It ‘has been’ necessary to go to a two and a half inch cam shaft’’.‘‘This engine ‘has been’ in production in the US’’.

We had small cam 290 &335’s fitted to Guy’s in 1973, think the big cam’s come on the scene about 76 ?
I do know the 290’s we had in the early Guy’s were American built, we often waited months for parts for them.

What a lovely find! It appears to be one of the six LHD B-series 6x4s rated at 57 tons with 9-speed Fullers supplied to Cunard Arabian Middle East Lines (CAMEL) in Jeddah. (Any pictures of their two NGCs?). Robert

Here is a short video of a B series with Jake Brake. I was following it a while back. It sounds great. Click on the picture.
Enjoy.

Interesting bit of film, GS. I may be wrong, but when it turned right at the end I thought it looked like a RHD E-series cab… Robert

Another export B Series with what look like the front bars from an FV dumper!.

This appears to be ERF’s standard bumper for all B-series and C-series Middle-East exports. They also appear on the odd cancelled order units as well (the Millfield trio for example). Thanks for posting this ‘ERF’. Robert

That PG Horridge LHD B-series again. Robert

Perhaps I should tackle these for my next lorries of Arabia book! Robert

Another of Ronhawk’s evocative pictures: a Trans Arabia B-series 6x4 leaving a mine in Saudi. Robert

Geoff Luther posted this great picture of PG Horridge’s B-series LHD ERF on the Poole thread. Robert

Here is a picture of its driver, Dave, who passed away a couple of years ago. Geoff Luther very kindly posted it on the Poole thread for me. Dave, may he rest in peace, preferred his old ERF NGC to the B-series! Robert

Here’s another picture of this unit-turned-wrecker. Robert

Dutch-spec ERFs! Best Truck Imports in Holland issued spec-sheets for the LHD B-series as follows (I notice that they were supplied with 13-speed Fullers, not 9-speed):

Day-cabbed work-horses were also offered in both 4x2 and 6x4 configurations (see below) - the 4x2 is supplied with a 9-speed Fuller. The whole range is offered with just the ■■■■■■■ 290. Robert

Van Steenbergen had two B-series from 1977 (with genuine sleeper) and they did quite a performance
till respectively 1989 for #27 L.768.M and 1990 for #45 94.HC.9 the latter working as a shunter in its
last years. As said NTCE290 powered

Two known day-cabbed B-series in NL and B, though not the same chassis.

Just a note to strengthen the information we have about the Taseco B-series ERFs in Dammam. A comment in 60 Years on: the Story of ERF refers to the timely order of 330 LHD B-series ERFs from Taseco at a time when ERF were struggling. The vehicles were 6x4s using Hendrickson RT 380 bogies, with ■■■■■■■ 290s and Fuller RTO 9509 'boxes. As we know from the pictures, some had day cabs and some had sleepers. Robert
