@Robert…AGREE!!!
That might indicate this previous Dutch was refurbished (mind the other Dutch B-series
in Germany in front of the Ford-dealers) with same White RC-striping.
Yes A-J I hadn’t thought of that! This unit surely bears the hallmarks of a re-imported Dutch ERF, but the only problem is that it would be on a Q-plate not a T-plate, so the mystery hangs in the air… Robert
Age-related plates were common in those days, were they not? So, if the (assumed) UK buyer of the vehicle could provide evidence that it was built after August '78, it would get a “T” plate. Alternatively, it was built earlier and declared new when re-imported. This would explain the old-style headlamps. IIRC, most, if not all “T” plates had the later arrangement.

Yes! I had forgotten about this. You are right Anorak, thank you. So, A-J, it is still very possible that this is an ex-Dutch ERF. I wonder who had it in Holland then. The plot thickens! Robert
As A-J did mention…some Dutch and Belgian ERF clients were attracted by the special design
from the White Road Commander. Even the UK White-importer (Coleshill) used it as a house-
style for even their Bedford CF service-van. Attached the Belgian B-series of Louis Vanhuyse of
Roeselare (close to Kortrijk), a wholesaler on vegetables and fruits since 1920 and still existing.

And for 40 years I’ve always thought it was a Dutch thing! In Holland it was commonplace to see the stripes continued along the sides of trailers (especially frigos) in an astonishing array of imaginative permutations during the '70s / '80s. Robert
This is just an observation. As an exercise I took all my scans of LHD B-series images and put them into 3 folders: 9-speed Fuller, 13-speed Fuller and unverified. A definite pattern emerged: all known 9-speed Fuller units were 6x4; and all known 13-speed Fuller units were 4x2. Of course there was a large number in the ‘unverified’ folder yet to be accounted for. It will be interesting to see whether this pattern continues, or whether an example breaks ranks… Just a thought! Robert
Another picture of one of Trans Arabia’s LHD B-series ■■■■■■■ 290 / Fuller 9-speed 6x4 road-trains I unearthed tonight on the internet. Robert
A new feast! ‘Wirminmerlin’ has recently posted new, as yet unseen, pictures of LHD B-series ERFs on a new thread (Trans Arabia / S Jones). I re-post them here, with grateful thanks to Wirminmerlin for sharing them with us, and for sharing his experiences & memories too! Robert
Here’s another Zucconi ERF from France, recently posted by Fergie on another thread. What a terrific picture! Robert
Another of John West’s gems: this shows two of Caravan’s (of Dammam) units, one of which is a B-series ERF (LHD). Nice old 142 next to it. Robert
Wirlinmerlin has started an excellent thread on Taseco of Dammam. Here’s the link: Robert

I’ve just been successfully out-bid at the last minute on ebay for the December 1980 of TRUCK magazine, which had a Euro Test in it, featuring a LHD B-series ERF among others. I had intended to scan the test for you and post it on here. If anyone else has that mag perhaps they could oblige. Robert
Intriguingly, a third example of a Greek-registered ERF B-series with LHD has turned up! Robert
Here’s a reminder of the first two:
I spotted this on Ferdy’s toprun Facebook page just now, maybe there are more on his site? Oh and apologies if it’s been posted before.

Aye, it’s been on in this and other guises, but better safe than sorry. Cheers! Robert
I never really had much to do with ERFs, can’t really say I’m a fan tbh, I have a butcher’s through these threads every now and then though, I find them interesting, more from the passion you have for the marque Robert than the subject itself.
I always save any pics I see just in case they have yet to appear on these pages, I don’t think I’ve managed an exclusive yet, but maybe, just maybe, my time will come…

Newmercman: you have already achieved that status by more subtle means, by writing words of encouragement when my spirits were flagging , thereby saving me from becoming discouraged from keeping these threads going! Robert
