Learner drivers on L plates

How long must I have held my full LGV licence before I can take a LGV provisional driver out on the road?

Do I have to display front and rear L plates?

What licence entitlements on the learners driver licence does he need?

You should have held a license of the appropriate class for 3 years.

As far as I’m aware L plates should be displayed front and rear.

3 years with the category you intend to supervise
Ordinary L plates front and rear
Learner needs provisional entitlement for that category of vehicle - only checkable online nowadays
Correct insurance for a learner to drive

As an aside when did the HGV L plates disappear? I remember doing my class 3 with them on whereas some lads had both HGV and car L plates displayed as they were doing both at once. The difference between me and them was that they were not allowed on a motorway whereas I was as I already held a full car licence.
