Lay by time limit

Just parked up on the A49 south of Hereford with 10min to spare. Have just noticed the sign saying waiting restricted to 4hrs! Am I going to get grief for parking overnight?

Nope you got law on your side, you’ve ran out of time you can’t move can you.

i doubt anyone will care

You could possibly get a ticket on the windscreen, very unlikely but still possible.

I dont think you would have a leg to stand on at an appeal, if the vehicle is broken down then you have a statutory defence, but if you are out of hours… I’m not aware of any cases based on drivers hours.

Think logically, you could argue that its ok to park on double yellows because you are out of time?

On the flip side, parking tickets are a problem for the company, not you.

You may not be aware but any layby can be made restriction free by accidentally reversing over the sign.

Or spinning it round to face the opposite way :open_mouth:

Yeah, in theory you could get a ticket, but i’d be mighty surprised if you did.

I suspect the time limit is mainly to stop commuters leaving their cars there all day long and getting lifts into and back from town with colleagues, those who use M1 Barlborough junction, and many others near motorway junctions, will know how awkward it is to find a spot to park due to all day parkers.

I think someone has already dealt with one sign by this method!

strange layby’s at that location, half of it is restricted (40 mins I think) and the other half isn’t restricted at all.

Plenty of parking on the industrial estate by Tosco’s

Now THAT would be a better reversing exercise for the driving test…reverse around the cone, back into the garage and take out a No Overnight Parking sign on the last cone!

Are you in Maggies layby, or have you made it as far as the top of the Callow? The time limit is probably there to stop persons of a travelling persuasion taking up residency.

Just near Callow, the layby set back from the road. I won’t park in the laybys with no distance from the road!

The one below the road with a grass embankment ? Watch out for the funny fella’s. :unamused:

They don’t go there to joke, but hope to get a poke, by all accounts.

Yeah, because that’ll stop 'em. A sign.

Keep driving, do a print out and scribble on the back, your allowed to find a safe and LEGAL place to park, just don’t make a habit of it.
