Late changing traffic lights!

Failed my Driving test yesterday.
Had a few minors but the only significant major was breaking hard at some traffic lights…

Situation…
Was approaching a traffic lighted junction which I was told to turn right at. There was a “Keep clear” box Imediately in from of the lights for a side street. The Lights had been at green for ages so I approached slowly expecting them to change.

At two meters from the “Keep Clear” box, with the lights still green, I felt I had no choice but to commit so accelerated to clear the lights. literally a second after putting my foot down, the lights changed, so I broke sharply in order to stop before entering the “Keep Clear” box.
My examiner felt this sharp breaking was a major and failed me.

Should I have powered through the lights?
Should I have ignored the “keep clear” box and come to a more gradual stop blocking the access to the side street?

We werent there, so are relying on your reading of what happened, but, Im with Rog.

If you started accelerating

WideWolf:
I felt I had no choice but to commit so accelerated to clear the lights

then go with that.

However look at whether or not you committed too early on?
Make your move, ONCE, only.
