Anyone been here or in the vicinity ? If so is it worth a fortnight’s holiday ?
Many thanks.

I tipped in Friedrichshafen summer 2012,I didn’t have much of a look around tbh but as you drive in towards F’hafen from Uberlingen there are some nice views of the Lake, plenty of shops, bars and restaurants about.
Came through there in January this year at about 8:30 pm and was chucking down with snow…!!
You could always take the ferry from Meersburg to Konstanz and pop into CH for a day…
Also cracking scenery along the A14 from Feldkirch towards Innsbruck although maybe a bit out your way depending on where your thinking of staying.
Pretzel’s and Meatloaf is plentiful down there…and very nice
If your driving, watch speed around Fischbach (I think) 30 KMH in some parts with plenty of Police about…!
If you like tunnels could always nip to the Arlberg Tunnel…longer than Blanc…!!
Typically Germanic. Clean and fresh, but I wouldn’t think over-lively, but then I suppose it depends on what you’re looking for.

Well for some reason i’ve never been to Germany so we thought we would take the “wobbly box” over but we wanted somewhere nice and scenic preferably near the Alps as we love that part of the world so had a look and that area sprung to mind but any other areas in Germany will be considered.

Got to say, it is nice around the lake. I’d certainly take the ferry over to the Swiss side too.
I’ve only ever been there whilst working, so i’m probably not the best person to advise from a holiday perspective, but it’s scenic, without a doubt.
The other side of Swiss is better for a holiday. France ,Annecy area. I know it’s where the family were wiped out but the German side is always claustrophobic to me. Germany is ok for work but you’ve got to know where to go for camping IMO .
If you go down the 33, you can stop and have a look at the worlds biggest cuckoo clock!
The scenery around the lake (known in German as the Bodensee) is pretty unspectacular rolling countryside. The Alps start behind Bregenz which is at the eastern end of the lake.
All the major towns on the lake are connected by boat so you can flit from place to place without the need to drive. Also Zürich is about an hour’s train ride from Konstanz.
Great area for push biking if that floats your boat. Also there is the Zeppelin museum in Friedrichshafen.
However, if you are visiting Germany for the first time, you could consider a visit to the Mosel valley. Not as far as Lake Constance but far superior in the scenery department.
Boot down through Belgium and Lux to Trier (the oldest city in Germany) and then tour along the Mosel river to Koblenz where it meets the Rhine.
Stunning scenery, lovely little towns and more vineyards and wine tasting than you can shake a stick at. Loads of caravan sites for the old wobble box (where 80% of the happy campers will be Cloggies). Might be prudent to book in advance in the summer mind.
If you want any more ideas, give me a yell…
I unloaded farm machinery around the Koblenz area and i would agree with what you have posted.
Very scenic, and the river. It would be a good base to tour the area.

Thanks very much for that, got nothing booked yet but that will give us food for thought.
So basically the German side of Bodensee is boring
There used to be a bowling alley in Konstanz called the Petite Paris…or was that the…anyway balls were involved.
Seriously, a really nice part of the world.
I’d agree that along the Rhein or Mosel there’s fantastic scenery. As well as wine tasting there are also river cruises, the Rhein in Flames Festival (major fireworks). Cochem is on the Mosel, near the A1 / A61 cross, lovely little place with a proper fairytale castle. I did a school holiday trip to St Goarhausen, just below the Lorelei which has a large open air theatre (the mighty Quo were playing there). That was a few years ago
Mind you, Konstanz / Bodensee seems nice too. There seems to be Zeppelin flights from the museum as well as looking at pictures. Lots of little ferries which take cars and a couple of trucks flitting about all over the See. Switzerland isn’t very big, but it’s expensive. Camping in Germany and doing a few day trips to see more spiky bits would seem to make sense to me. It’s only a couple of hours by truck from Basel, a bit further to Bern and Zurich is closer. William Tell, Santis mountain, Rheinfelden, all in easy reach
Lake Annecy always has fond memories for me, we stayed there when I was about 7 & Jaques let me drive his full size speed boat which as you can imagine is one of the finest memories of my childhood.
Baldbloke, how about taking the wobbly box to the Granada area of Spain.
There is Sierra Nevada,Alahambra palace, the beaches of Motril and Calahonda of which has a decent campsite.
Tour the mountains near Olviga.
Night life in Puerto de Banus to see the billionares super yachts.

A bit too far Tobes, got to do the Dover to Calais bit with the box otherwise everything else is just stupid money and more. Basically she wants Germanland and i fancy Swissland so guess where we will be going ?
Ok Baldbloke,i will cancel dinner with the Mayor of Malaga.
Having previously holidayed in Lindau I can say it’s a nice place to stay, the setting on the lake can be beautiful if the weather is good. When it’s a saints day the boats on the lake are decorated. You could consider continuing a bit further than the Allgau and head to Berchtesgaden and Bad Reichenhall. Superb scenery, plenty of recent history, Koenigsee is very beautiful - recommend the boat trip. If you drop the wobble box try the Panoramastrasse. Weather last year was v hot and sunny 36 - 40 every day.
Ps Munich is defo worth a visit.
