L Van Gaever of Antwerp

The Belgian company, L Van Gaever of Antwerpen / Anvers has cropped up many times on the more historical Continental threads on this forum. More recently this company’s trailers were the subject of debate on the trailer threads; and our friend in Belgium, Eric (Tip-top) made valuable contributions including pictures, some of which I reproduce below. The company had close links with Britain through its relationship with CRTS /Ackworth in the '60s & '70s.

I’ve started this thread because it struck me that this company operated a really interesting mix of lorries and trailer; made variously in Sweden, Germany, Britain, France, Holland and elsewhere. They were a truly international bunch in their day.

On the Continent their lorries made long international trips but there was also a good deal of cross-Channel unaccompanied trailer movement, resulting in some marvellous mixes of units and trailers for the onward journeys at either end.

To kick the thread off, here is a selection of L Van Gaever pictures from various threads to present a flavour of what they ran. Enjoy!

Not sure when twist locks first appeared so possibly just a normal flat bed ?

Heres a few more from 1966.

I think twist-locks were around then but not so many people had skellies or PSKs in those days, so they boxed and coxed a bit more than they’re allowed to now. To be fair, those look like proper trailers.

Plenty of Van Gaever footage here! Be sure to watch the 2nd part which has all the Belgian action in it
