Knighthood opinions

Mr Southgate the man has being recognised for his contribution to football and there is talk about him being one the the best football managers in decades
He united the supporters to the very end but won nothing with his style of football
He could have won everything with a different approach
He was only short of being publicly flogged by the supporters and press for his style of playing football
Has he deserved to be a sir Gareth

No.
An OBE maybe, recognition for the way he brought on and developed a young new team, to next stage, got us to finals.

Knighthood?..Too much.

For anybody really, seeing the company you would be in if you accepted one I would be offended if it was offered. Same with the Dames, I see that Thornberry woman has got one, her who called people racists for hanging an English flag out of their window.

Khan: Absolute knight mayor!

I wonder if the King knighted Khan using a zombie knife instead of a sword to make him feel more comfortable ?

Generally, I would tend go along with that quite happily, especially if thinking about our Tees Valley Mayor, “Baron” Ben Houchen, but there’s a couple of exceptions I know from personal life.

I had an uncle (now deceased) who got an OBE for “services to education” - I’m not too sure what he did to deserve it, but he lived in Northern Ireland, and was clearly ‘influential in the community’ (read between the lines…) so I’ve always assumed there was a political angle to it somewhere along the line.

Far more impressively, my former degree tutor was awarded a CBE (an honour second only to a knighthood, as I understand the system). This was for his wide ranging efforts for a variety of charities, most notably the End the Debt campaign of the early 2000’s, aimed at improving life for people in impoverished countries.

More directly, he was also a massive personal help to me when my life went spectacularly down the pan; without his selfless support of my (totally my own fault) situation, my life might have turned out quite differently. Truthfully, I feel genuinely honoured to have had this man as a personal friend.
