Hi everyone and its great to be on this forum. I have read some really useful stuff here.
I will be back on the road Monday for a few days a week driving arctic fridges and just wanted your opinion on the kit I need.
I won’t be doing nights out but as it’s been a while since I’ve driven trucks commercially I’m keen not to set off having forgotten something obvious and look a dimwit!
So far I have put together a bag containing the following;
Gloves
Hi Viz vest
Steel Toe Cap Boots
Phillips truckers map
Torch
Sunglasses
Flask of coffee and sarnies
Water
Digicard / CPC / Driving licence
The trucks I will drive have a truck specific sat nav but I’m wondering if there is a truck navigation map that I could download for my phone?
Thanks a lot
You are not a dimwit for asking , but you will need a face covering or mask for the motorway shop and transport hub .
Foam ear plugs if you want a snooze in the daytime .( From Boots )
I’d add paracetamol and ibuprofen plus any medication you normally take.

I use the Sygic app… its OK but a bit quirky…
Google maps in satellite View is a god send for checking out new sites etc

Toilet roll , nothing worse than being caught out or when it’s run out in a public cubicle at goods in warehouse .
Even for day runs , a wee bottle is handy when having a kip on the bunk , then tip it down a drain later on .
An old laundry detergent bottle will suffice .
Will you be in back of fridge with a pump truck? Warm jacket. And although it’s summer some sites insist on full covering of arms and legs, so shorts, t-shirt aren’t enough.
USB cig lighter charger plus appropriate cable for phone. Do make sure it can cope with 24v (not all can). Ideally a Hella plug to cig lighter converter as not all trucks have a cig socket.
One of those phone charger blocks incase the cig lighter doesn’t work.
Empty 500ml Lucozade bottle is ideal as a pee bottle.
Ton of drinks snacks, screw drivers, dashcam, small WD40, sudocrem, spare cables, hammer (for bent fridge door handles).
Don’t bother with expensive gloves. I just buy packs of ones from Amazon / Ebay as they get wet, damaged, lost etc.
Wet wipes as Rob mentioned! Defo good esp for cleaning hands etc.
As for phone sat navs, theres copilot which some swear by. Just be careful not to touch it (even in cradle) while driving or the police can have you for using a mobile while driving.
The above is what I have for night trunking, no nights out.

If you pour a bit of clean oil be it engine or even cooking oil on your gloves then rub it in as if your washing your hands it’ll protect them better and stops them getting too wet .
Oh and a carrier bag to put them in
Always expect an unplanned night out due to delays and a road closure and then out of hours to return to base , so pack a big sports bag with a sleeping bag ,pillow and toiletries as you never know .
Nothing worse sleeping on a stained bunk and just wearing your uniform or work clothes .
