How dumb are the American public ? Not only are US made cars total crap but the so called imports that are actually made here like Kia and its brother are even worse.
They offer a resale price promise which means you will get a good price when you trade it in 5 years (provided you buy another pile of junk) and the newest Kia on sale here is about the same size as a VW Jetta and an unbelieveble $3,000 more to buy
My missus and me bought a Honda Pilot last year, it was 5 years old and cost us $10,000 but well worth it for a good 8 seater SUV that will go anywhere and has the highest resae value of any SUV here. When we were car hunting we looked at all makes, we coudn’t afford a new Pilot at $32,000 and looked at others, Jeep rot, Land Rovers were too expensive, Kia and the other rubbish make were so baddly made on close examination I wouldn’t want to be given one. we foung brand new Kia’s with ill fitting doors, boot lids and roofs, cracked paintwork etc and shoddy workmanship … how can they ever compare them to VW ? … one dealer here says the big Kia is comarable to a Jaguar x type
You didn’t fancy a ‘hun-day’ then?

Same company, same crap
The Sonata may look sharp but look closely at them, cheap rubbish with a resale value of $5.00

Hi Pat, I am not in the market for a new car at the moment, but the latest Hyundai’s do look smart the elantra, sonoma and genisis. They all come with a 100,000 mile warranty.
One of my girlfriends has a 2008 elantra, it goes like â– â– â– â– off a shovel, and rides good. My neighbour turned in a troble-some BMW, for a sonoma and loves it. She is no dummy when it comes to cars, previously always having top of the range motors. She is no dummy when it comes to trucks either, as manager of the largest gasoline transport company in Central Florida.
If you have Directv go to channel 112, its a running ad for the gensis and is quite impressive!
I have always bought old cars for work myself, but bought the soon to be ex, a brand new Chevrolet Lummna in Dec 1994 and I now use it for work. 265,000 miles and counting, needs a coat of paint but runs well.
It gets an oil change every 5000 miles with a drop of STP, built in Canada. Not ideal for pulling the birds, but my 12 year old daughter has learned to drive in it, and few believe the mileage until I show them.
There is no knowing how good or bad a vehicle is until you have owned and ran one yourself.
I remember an interview in Commercial Motor a few years back, when Iveco launched the Trakker 8 wheel chassis at the motor show.
They interviewed an old friend of mine, who was a Deutz man what he thought of the new truck, I will let you know in five years was his answer!
Regards Paul.

Understatement of the year
I have been a passenger in this car, I can confirm that even though it is a â– â– â– â– â– â– repellent, it does indeed go well
I like the Hyundai Genesis, looks like an s Class from the front, being an Asian car it comes with all the toys, a good warranty, customer service (unlike the big three ) and it has modern wonders like independant suspension, not straight beam axles and cart springs like it’s American competition I’ll stick with my Charger for a while, I’m going to replace it with the new Charger, but this time instead of the R/T with a 5.7 HEMI, I’m going for the SR/T with the 6.4
I am in no way saying you don’t get all the trimings with Hyundai and Kia but they are still no go for me, I have examined new models and found so many faults I can’t count them all. I know they have a good warranty and all that and a promised resale value but as I stated earlier … only if you trade then in for another at the same dealer, it’s like Ford saying they have a projected resale value for the Fusion, I don’t want to hear ‘projected’ I wanna be able to get that promised price when I get rid of it years down the lne no matter who I sell it to, 'projected’eans nothing to me.
The car we own has the highest resale value in the country and is the most reliable SUV also.
Hyundai suvs cost more than Jeeps and are nowhere near as good quality. I could never be convinced to buy any of them.

Nice one Mark. I must admit, I have had to use the car a little more lately. However, I wait for it to get dark before I leave my local. I mostly get a cab into town, using the excuse I don’t drink and drive!
Once my divorce is sorted, and I have secured the house I will be shopping for a new car, I promise.
Anyway, when are you going to visit?
Regards Paul.
My main point Paul is that they are supposedly cheaper cars and always used to be. The averagefamily could afford them because of that fact and we all took the pee out of those who owned them because they seem to fall apart after a few years. Now they are more expensive than a lot of top quality cars.
When a new Jeep Liberty is cheaper than a Hyundai Santa Fe there’s something wrong, knowing the Jeep with hold it’s value much better.
Not a fan of either, the Santa Fe is a nasty looking thing and the Liberty is pig ugly too, Jeep are owned by FIAT now, so they’re the real budget car

Not in any way praising Jeep Mark, although Kate’s Wrangler is her pride and joy, I want a Land Rover but not only are they as expensive as Gold but she is determined there will never be a LR on our drive, I on the other hand am adamant that one day there will be

Blimey for a minute there I thought you were going to say that you liked the Oriental ricer heap so much and that Pat’s comments had convinced you to trade the Charger in for the Hyundai.
Or even a Honda.
No [zb]ing way CF, there’s no substitute for cubic inches
And if I can add my Aus 2 cents for what it’s worth .
In 2001 my daughter wanted to buy a new white Kia Sportage and asked for my advice, as I knew nothing about them I asked around at work and one guy said that he had one of the early models which had a lot of gearbox problems. I phoned her up to try and talk her out of buying it but she said that as she really liked it she had already signed the paperwork that afternoon .
She had it serviced every nine months, oil change, oil filter and a set of wiper blades in five years when she traded it in for another new Kia Sportage, V6 cylinder, metallic black with cherry specks.
It did over 60,000 klms on the original tyres in the V6 which were Hankooks and she changed the discs after 90,000 klms.
This was also serviced every nine months (the handbook said it should be done every six) she didn’t do much off roading but she did use dirt roads most days and value for money she was very happy with both cars. The only downside was that the carpets were wearing a bit thin. She traded it in last year for a Mazda and she thought that the trade in price was fair enough.
I hope this helps .
Americans are praising the new Dodges which as it happens are in fact a Fiat Bravo and an Alpha Romeo
