kent transport

Barrios also had F296GKO which was a 4x2 F16. This was a fantastic looking motor and was driven by a mate of mine Steve Pendry aka Scooby.

I missed that one! I have F297GKO an F12 with Barrio

Theres a nice photo of F296 on Flickr. Type in Barrio Volvo F16 and it should come up.

Oh yes, ive just found a photo of F297. That was an F12 400 4x2 but not a Globetrotter, driven by Adrian Gamble if i remember rightly.

Hi mark would love to see photo of F297GKO as it was my motor from new and was to come home with the reg of F10CKO but splitpin messed up the paper work,Ihad to wait 20 year but i have the plate now . I worked for split from 1980 to 90 and still have my long service award. flocko

Nice one, I like the name on the side of the trailer. The RJ Wood Scania looks like it was taken at Paddock Wood

Hi Flocko, what a great story…i remember how nice those Volvos used to look. F297 was particularly nice. Was i right about it being an F12 400?. As regards your number plate, do you have it on your car so we can spot you on the road?.

Yes, the photo of the Woods ( Coolchain ) Scania was taken at Paddock Wood on the Transfesa estate. That was my one at the time M750 OKM and was new in Nov 94. Heres another photo of it with me and the wife in the Sheernes carnival in 1996. Happy days…

Heres my new one if i may be so bold…

George Hammond - I was driving down the M20 this afternoon towards Ashford.Shock of my life…I passed a red Volvo FM pulling a container. The lorry had Hammond in white writing on the side and the George Hammond corporate logo (flag etc ) on the windowless sleeper cab.
Do they still have a skeletal haulage operation ? One of you will know the answer I am sure.

SEAS ran out of Chatham Docks. Ran mainly Scanias but did have a couple of ex Ashby Volvo FH’s. They had some Scanias with special numbers as seen by R5EAS

worked 4 seas 4 8yrs great times

Hullo, I am a Kentish man myself by birth, but left there many years ago. I had a friend there though that lived in the same Village as me. Pat Riley was his name, from at that time Staplehurst. Does anybody know him or remember him ? I believe he had a White Road Commander the last time I ran with him. This was to Greece. The last time I actualy saw him, I was sitting in my cab on a cold dark morning, At Boughton Monchelsea, opposite the ■■■■, and just writing out my Tacho Card, when there was a heavy knock on the passenger door and a voice shouted “Can I see your records driver” It was Pat laughing his ■■■■ off. He had packed in driving and had started in the Roofing Business. Cheers, Archie.

I have seen this unit as well. Reg no is S778FEU. When Dodds took over in 1998, all of the remaining units and trailers (that hadn’t gone back to Invicta Motors were used by Dodds, but Hammonds kept the 3 EBT Units and tanks running from Dover. They also owned various petrol stations throughout Kent, and had an office in Dover Docks. Maybe this red unit is something that has grown from this?

I probably watched you in the crowd as you went by! Do they still allow people on trailers like that for carnivals or have health & safety put an end to it in case someone falls off?
