Keeping records Newbee Question

Hello All
I have a form which i fill in everyday but need a little advice please. I have date, start, finish, registration, total time. My question does total time include my breaks? Or should redo the form for total shif hours and another for total work hours minus the breaks.

Sorry if this has been asked before but I have only been driving class 2 for 3 months.

Many thanks
Ian

What is the form for - your hours from which you get paid or your driving/other work hours

From what they want on the form it SEEMS that the form is for your paid hours in which case that includes everything

Hi Rog thank you for your reply. It is just for my records for all work time ie tacho in and tacho out. But does work hours include breaks or only work and driving. This is why I asked about the form as it is just for my records.

Many thanks
Ian

Everything unless told otherwise by management
I am assuming you get paid from ‘clocking on to clocking off’ with perhaps a certain amount of time deducted for lunch

Hi, I get paid from clocking on to clocking off including breaks. I didnt know if it was worh keeping track of total shift time and the total work time deducting my breaks. Thats why I asked the question as I dont know what would be best.

Thank you
Ian

That is for your employer to do - you just give them the info such as your tacho records

It is good you have a chart but if loose leaf can get lost. I did when I started.

I use an A5 diary and record:

  • at the top: REG, TLR, line below ODO, Start time, departure time (one can have strapping up to do with an artic trailer so worthwhile as well as vehicle check 10-15 mins.
  • I list my deliveries and collections (postcode and first line of address). Along with arrival and departure time. useful in case office contact me about the job. By listing departure time and arrival time I can tell the office how long it has taken.
  • night out location
  • finish time (and odo in case I swap trucks)… just so I have it noted for total working time
  • TimeCalculator… a phone app for calculating hours and mins is very useful. I have tried using Tachoguard (does not do 15 min breaks only 45 iirc., and TruckTimer will do 15, 30, 45 breaks but I did not find it accurate enough to rely on.
  • each time I take break I log the driving hours from the tacho and put the break time next to it (if only a 15 then I put a cross against it). I can then keep an eye on the driving hours and working time at a glance with a running total at each stop. Use TimeCalculator to log whether a >13 hr day and mark reduced rest (RR1, RR2, RR3), I have to be on the road soonest in the morning.
  • if an infringement occurs then one can log it and then do a printout. I had trouble parking two weeks ago… 2 mins over.

I then transfer the log to my time sheet at the end of the week.
