The BIG J UNIT WAS A REPLACEMENT FOR A BMC UNIT AND THE YORK TRAILER WAS EXTENDED FROM 32ft TO 40ft and was the first done by YORK TRAILERS WARRINGTON to be ready the day the law changed to allow longer vehicles.
Westbrook packaging Ormskirk. We used to run into there with cardboard from Jefferson Smurfit. That would have been around about 1960. I was still a lad at school but I was wagon mad even then. I used to ride with the Pennington drivers. Life was more relaxed back then. I seem to recall access was a bit tricky. The drivers had to park outside on the road for a while before reversing blind side on to the loading bay. I would have been about 12 or 13 at that time so apologies if I’m mistaken. Cheers. Eddie.

You’ve got it right it was a tricky loading bay to reverse onto. It made you pretty good at reversing with all the practice and it was entertaining watching the drivers who were never going to be any good and there were quite a few of those. I only started with WESTBROOkS in about 1966 ? They built 2 more bays later that were easier to get on . I only stayed about 4 years and left when offered a job at AMOCO . Enjoyed my time there and got on well with the boss and his son Jimmy .His two gorgeous daughters worked in the office a real family affair.
