This has got the old head going now, remember the trucks well where were they based in Swindon ? Was it Stratton St Margarets ( spellings got a be wrong ) or up the Oxford road near to Bamptons Bodyworks, But that could have been Curtis or Howard Tennants, not sure that’s the right name  I only worked for one Swindon firm years ago. and that was Coopers in Gypsy lane, they then ran Leyland 6 leggers couple of Guy Big J’s 6 leggers and an 8 legger AEC. A good firm to work for in those days, paid good money.

I think your right about Stratton St Margaret - weren’t Linton & Hurst the parent company  I think the bloke in charge at Reading was John Smith - used to go to work sometimes wearing a kilt - bit unusual for Reading Berkshire

Len Thompson was our foremans name - if you remember those R310’s came with limiters long before the law required them but you lot disconnected them  Can’t think why
Remember the Dodges - one had a sleeper cab and one had a pod over the cab - guy called Jack drove it
Going back a couple of years we did head gaskets on a Magnum Martin Willis had bought- not seen him since :grimacing:
You can’t remember the name of the bloke at Swindon depot that was a sort of fitter/driver can you ?

Steve

len that was him when i dropped him back at the garage he was heard to say f******* idiot , ha ha and is it dave robbins

I ve got quite a few JWQ photos from when my dad was a subbie for Sheerness depot. Scammell Crusader HBW 88N,
Mercedes 1418 GRD 126L, Renault NLB 5V & Daf 3300 A456WRX, Renault PCL 204W .
I,ll try and post them up sometime. Does anyone remember any of these motors?.

those regs bring back memories HBW88N was based at reading has it got a m painted on the grille ,GRD was my first artic ,and NLB 5V was from swindon the other one you mentioned was it a dodge fourwheeler with a renault badge

No, it was an artic with a curtainsider. Looks brand new in the photo. Ive also found a photo of another Renault pulling out of Sheerness docks with a load of fruit on a flat trailer, fully roped and sheeted. Happy days.

Shaw Ballard had NLB 5V for a while - i did the head gaskets on it

Paul - remember ■■■■■ writing off the JP13 JLC 515V  when the load came foward into the cab
Also he came in once with a “rubbing” sound and had ratchet strapped the load and the PROPSHAFT

Be good to see any pics anyones got

Steve

had ratchet strapped the load and the PROPSHAFT :open_mouth: :open_mouth: :open_mouth:

oh yes this lad ■■■■■ was a diamond he thought it would be better to run in to a load of girders than slow down ,(he was going up a hill at the time ), ha ha ,and the time he thought he could overtake a tractor as it was turning right ,(oops) he told boss that the tractor had drove in to him ,
