Just a Thought... (also posted elsewhere on the boards)

Hello,

I am toying with the idea of organising a truck show / tractor show in aid of charity. To put everyone into the picture, A friend of mine Passed away from a rare but aggressive form of stomach cancer and his main interest in life was transport. He loved Trains, Trucks and Cars, even to the extent of building or attempting to build his very own miniature railway in his back garden. He was a kind and gentle man with all the time in the world for everyone, and passionate about all forms of transport.

His death from this evil disease in February this year was very quick, as it was only diagnosed as cancer in december last year and he left behind two young boys ( age 5 and 11) and a very distraught wife.

I would like to organise some sort of event in his memory with all proceeds going to the cancer charity of his son’s choosing, and I wondered if any of you guys on here would be willing to attend or support this venture, should it go ahead.

I realise that there are a lot of things to be in place before any event can take place, and this will happen, once I am able to gauge how much interest there is from fellow truckers.

If you could let me know your thoughts on this, I would be very grateful.

Cheers

great idea, i have just been at a show last weekend for charity, well, 2 charities benefited from the monies raised, and it was a great chilled out weekend

the location that you choose will be of paramount importance to get more people to attend

That’s what I would like to organise, a relaxed weekend with lots to se and do and of course raise lots of much needed revenue for the charity!

I have a few contacts that I can utiise to help with certain aspects and I have a local DJ who is a great Compere for the entire show.

Stalls, Beer tent, Funfair rides and of course the beautiful trucks and other vehicles and various events…and with a wee bit of luck it might be an annual event.

As for location, I think a tarmac area would be better, due the weather conditions (don’t want the vehicles sinking into soft ground) I was thinking of an old aerodrome or large car park

Thanks for the reply.

when i mentioned location, i was talking about the location in the country, not what type of ground it is on

I knew you were talking about the location in the country  It would be in Aberdeenshire

id be there, if it wasnt a 9hr haul in the trucks :frowning:

We’re attending a similar event in July, the Oliver Smith Truck Rally, Oliver is a 7-y-o Kent boy who has a very nasty form of childhood cancer which has already caused him to become blind, here’s the Facebook link to the rally, it may help give you some ideas. I think there are so far about 70 trucks attending, starting with a convoy from Medway services to Leysdown on the Isle of Sheppey. facebook.com/pages/Oliver-S … 6586675403

Thank you for this information, I really hope to start the organisation of the event soon, this will help a lot. It is such a shame that young children are blighted by this evil disease. I hope the young man gets as much support from as many people as he can.

Try posting in the Aberdeen&shire facebook group to generate some interest facebook.com/groups/362257663902025/ if i am able to I will turn up with mine.
