journey time

Hello
Do you think Redditch to cockermouth,■■■■■■■ and back would be doable in a day in a 7.5t

Thanks

Easily in a 10hr. Depends on how long it takes you to get out of Redditch onto the motorway and whether or not you get held up between the M5/M6 split and J22 M6 where most of the holdups occur. Its a bit tight to do it in 9 if your limiter is set to 56MPH but if its set to 60 or 70 you should be OK.

On a night time you’ve no problem doing it in a 9 even with a limiter set to 56MPH.

many drivers do cockermouth
not so tight

easily done in a 10 hr drive day , but all dependant on traffic .

Back in the late seventies when I worked for an Iveco dealership near Blackburn, the parts bloke used to set off from HQ in Winsford, Cheshire, drop into me, then Carlisle, Glasgow, Edinburgh, Newcastle and then home. No M6 over Shap then either. He used an equivalent of a 7.5t dropside so had to sheet as well.

Fair old trot round! He couldn’t hang around yakking, just time for half a brew and he was gone!

use to do Oxford to Whitehaven and back, so thats a bit of an easy one.

Yes, i’d plan to leave early from redditch so you dont get caught in the traffic.

No M6 over Shap in the late 70s

.

In 1970, the Lancaster—Penrith link was completed, along with a short section of motorway by-passing the south of Walsall. The most northerly section of the motorway also opened in 1970, running to the designated terminus north of Carlisle.

Guessing by the above the poster actually meant the late '60’s.
or the driver hadn’t got an up to date map!

Fair comment but would there have been an Iveco dealership in the late 60s

Dunno about “Socketset” . . . more like spanner !!  . . no offence btw.

I used to have a socketset like that…a socket missing
Only joking

Many years ago I used to do Gloucester to Maryport, tip, reload Whitehaven and back to Gloucester. Had to go via Carlisle on the outward leg, due to a low bridge (over 14feet high with bagged charcoal) but o.k. on the return as it was usually half a dozen pallets of tinned pies from John West.
Started on the run with a 12.75-ton Ford D-series, then went to a 28-ton V8 Perkins-powered D-series with tipping trailer. Journey times were within 20 minutes or so with either vehicle.

No offence taken, I asked for it
