James Hall & Co (SPAR)

This company at Preston have an advert for class one drivers. Anyone know what doing the SPAR deliveries is like? I know it’s obviously going to be harder work than sitting in an RDC for 3 hours, but other than that anyone know what the job is like? And what the hours and pay is like?

Thanks

They seem to have an increasing number of urban double deck trailers which I wouldn’t fancy dragging round housing estates and such like…

I went for an interview and never bothered with it. If i remember right the pay was about average for the area, poor at best. If your looking in that area for day work I’d try the brewery at Samlesbury, I’ve heard that stobbies and downtons have lost it and DHL are back in.

Does day work mean 13 to 15 hour days with them? Or a more reasonable 10 to 12 so you’ve actually got time to do something by the time you get home?

With the brewery day work will be between 8 to 12 hours, nothing planned over 12 hours but ■■■■ happens in transport. If you did end up doing a 15 then expect an easy day to follow.

I often see spar trucks / drivers nighting out at rugby , but think there more Birmingham based than Preston

Used to be that lads that ran out of willenhall (main depot) were told that anything over 12 hours was classed as a night out so park up and run back in the morning.
Used to be the case that when I pulled into Corley north there was more spar trucks there than back in willenhall.
