J. & W. Watt Limited

Can anyone remember J. & W. Watt Limited of Carlisle, they had a cracking fleet of around 70 ERF’s in a two tone green livery.

It,s not an ERF but this Scania was an ex Watts of Carlisle.
It was bought by Davies in Southampton and driven by me
on international work.
Photo has been shown on the Davies thread but here it is again.

The Scania 141 ARM 734T was driven by a guy called John “Jake the peg” Kitchen, towards the end of J & W Watts existence in the haulage game many drivers were offered the chance of becoming owner drivers and different makes of lorries started to appear in the yard DAF 3300’s, Scania 111’s, 112’s and the sole 141. The lads who opted onto the owner driver scheme financed the vehicles through J & W Watt and many lost their vehicles with only two payments outstanding when the company went bump in the early eighties.

Thanks for this Diff Lock, I could never remember them having a 141 however I remember some owner drivers buying their own lorries in J & W Watts livery.

One thing that I have noticed about J&W Watt, is that there is no consistency in the livery!

Anyone remember a lad from Watts called Eddie? sorry can’t recall his surname. He was quite a small fella who was a regular at Cannons Marsh in Bristol, I did hear he had lost his HGV on medical grounds and was now driving a 7.5tonner. Had some great nights out with him.

You dirty old Ram Kev That would prob be the Eddie I was asking about I was also a regular Cannons Marsh man

The paint work was done “in house” with a bit of artistic flair on behalf of the painter, hence the inconsistency, and the Frozen Fayre and Watts livery on the fridges was a bit confusing too. I always thought the A series with aluminium painted chassis pulling a flat looked the best…a good old british lorry

That would be Eddie Armstrong, I believe he had a heart attack and lost his HGV license and then moved on to a company called Fosters Light Haulage from Sandysike Nr. Longtown driving a 7.5tonner and drag trailer.

Would that be the same Fosters who organised the Border City Steam & vintage Diff lock

Yes, you are correct. Graham Forster and his daughter, Mel , are the organisers of the annual Show.
Cheers, cattle wagon man.

Does anyone else have any more photos for Watts?

Only got this one which I took at Birch Services at the start of last years Pennine run and I think its been put on earlier

Hello george,
