Im not quite sure Dennis, But their traffic is all container stuff, They have one or two subbies as far as I know, But Im a little bit out of touch with this kind of operation, & It would beyond my knowledge of present day haulage, Eh Its now bloody called logistics, Oh dear what the ■■■■ has happened to the good old ways of hauling goods for customers who appreciated a good service & were willing to pay for it Eh, I will just top up with another large single malt just to relax me from all this modern day crap, That the hauliers are faced with, Hope you are keeping well, Regards Larry.

A question Larry,is Port of Tyne a Local authority, council, owned outfit ? I saw one of their new Volvos on the A6 to-day,what sort of traffic do they haul ? ex port on the outward trip but do they operate as general hauliers otherwise ? Just interested as to why a Port authority would believe they could operate motors more efficiently than say Adams or Waugh or even L.S.Dunbar for that matter! Just interested,Cheers Dennis.
Just done a search on Port of Tyne and they have a pretty good website which explains all their operations including their " intergrated logistic and transport solutions"" It would appear it is run as a profit making organisation but the 12 directors are appointed by the Secretary of State for transport.

Sounds like it’s a nationalised outfit trying to give the impression it is run along the lines of a private company, which is total bollox and if the board of directors is appointed by the government they have no chance of making a profit, maybe that geezer Flowers (from the Co-op) is on the board,it wouldn’t suprise me one bit if he was ! Ah! the North East, the last bastion of Public sector ■■■■■■■■■■ in England.Cheers Bewick.

Dennis, l worked at POT shunting in and around the dock for a few month’s. I can assure you it is not run like a nationalised industry. I know one of the directors personally, he can match any of your old time bosses you care to name, in fact he could probably teach them a trick or two. He is a self made man starting off as a boy in a traffic office in the seventies, working his way up through hard work brains and determination. He can also be pig headed and bad tempered. Remind you of anyone■■? Regards Kev.

By the sound of it then this anonymous bloke is a “Makem” ah! well that will account for it,there obviously was nobody on Tyneside capable of doing the job However wor Kev,I’m still not modifying my longheld opinion that any operation that enjoys government supprt/involvement is unfair competion to firms that have to operate within the free enterprise market without any “invisible” support from government undoubtly enjoyed by the likes of TP.Don’t get me started Dennis.
I’m not sure how PoT first kicked off but when Nissan Washington began production they only had one or two motors and there was always one coupled to a 20ft Container Trailer backed onto the Goods In dock in Nissan. I believe then they were running the containers in from Tyne Dock, they didn’t seem to do anything other than containers then. I drove for Fergusons at the time from the Sunderland depot and we ran equipment in every day until the factory was up and running and manufacturing. One of our Fitters left to work for PoT as a driver and they had only two or three motors by then but according to him they were going to get bigger. However how they were set up or what other work they had I haven’t a clue, from the start though they had clean and tidy vehicles. I would imagine someone on here from the Northeast will know more about the beginnings of this company. Cheers Franky.
Did the P.O.T take over Team Hawk that used to operate out of the tyne dock ? to become Port of Tyne Logistics

You like everyone else is entitled to an opinion Dennis, but as a self confessed Makem your judgment is obviously flawed, and in this case your talking out of your arse. I haven’t mentioned his name as I am extending him the common courtesy to reply if he reads these threads himself, or if he doesn’t, his name is not kicked about by all and sundry without his knowledge. Ps I know he is definitely not a Makem.!!! PPS I absolutely hate the stupid game. Regards Kev.

Aye OK Kev,I’ve no interest in who the anonymous bloke your on about may or may not be However,I think my opinion of State owned and operated transport or “Logistics” set ups is well founded on proven facts i.e. they all eventually come to grief no matter how much public money they comsume during the years they attempt to survive, usually by depressing rates, well they can of course,as they will naver be allowed to fail financially so to speak. Then again I am firmly in the camp of “free enterprise” providing there is a level playing field which can never be the case as long as the dead hand of state support is propping up one end of the “playing field” using our hard earned taxes which we are forced to pay.Now that was a long ■■■■ wasn’t it Cheers Dennis.
