Couldn’t resist taking this photo early on morning April 2009 at Newton Aycliffe one for Bewick
Can I just say that I think some of the comments made above of this lorry & it’s neatly sheeted load are far to critical!
The driver was only about 30 at the time, had travelled approx 250 miles from the South, still works for Jakeys & still has 1 of the smartest wagons on the fleet today.
As for the ropes over the fly sheet, it’s ‘normal’ practice at Jakeys to strip as much of your (the drivers) gear off the load as possible, the sheets all used to have vehicle Reg numbers on them, so it’s obviously easier to do this if the ropes on top of the fly!
Then again, there’s plenty of times I’ve used a cross front & back just to pull the corners in and stop them billowing!
Roping & sheeting is a dying art, theres drivers out there who are actually proud they CANT do it but theres still plenty at Jakeys who can, do (daily) & take a bit of pride in the job!

Can anyone tell me if JR Adams will have any trucks at Truckfest Scotland this year . ?
Yes, theres a couple of us planning on taking some motors to the show, depends if the boss can find us loads to take up that way
I’d also like to goto Uttoxeter (Peak) in July & Barny Castle of course & then Newark, don’t know which other show’s I can squeeze in this year, not that I’ve got 1 of the smart wagons, mines just a white MAN with stickers on!

Thanks for the information zebadee , kindest regards Shugg .
Anyone heard how Jaspers getting on, I hope he is recovering very well, I did hear thay have wrote his wagon off , so he will sureley get something as good as the one had, He should because he certainley looks after them, Regards Larry.
As far as I know, Mick’s on holiday at the moment but is due back this Monday.
His wagon was written off & is now in the workshop, being stripped for parts & they were busy doing the 'heads on an '04 DAF 95 (Sean’s old 1) which I think’ll be Jaspers, at least for the time being. I’ve driven it so I know it’s not a bad motor but obviously not as nice as his MAN was although it won’t take long for Mick to clean it up a bit & get it to his standard
I notice J&R Adams running a number of DAF`s in their fleet , how good/bad are they ? . ( the truth warts and all ).
Well as far as I know they have 3 tractor units & one beavertail 6 wheeler, I havent heard any complaints from their drivers up to now, Regards Larry. Hers a photo of the beavertail one.

Theres 2 x 04 Reg DAF 95 Tractors (the corgi model & painted in traditional colours), 1 of which the drivers had from new, usual DAF complants, head gaskets & cab mountings. I believe 1 of the diffs went porus & was leaking oil but generally, they’ve been reasonably good trucks.
Theres 1 57 plate 95XF 105 SSC (white, with spotty stickers)which seems to be realy liked by the driver & as far as I know has only had niggling faults, some of which it came with.
The 6 wheeler beavertail (red with stickers as Larrys photo) doesn’t seem to give much trouble although it is worked quite hard, but I don’t know what faults it has at the mo’, sorry.
I get the impression they might have more if the service/backup from the dealer was better but I do know they are more expensive than the MAN’s & Mercs which make up the majority of the fleet.
ps Jaspers back at work
Hope this helps, regards
John
