Its getting bad out there

2x fuel been nicked 4x curtain been slashed (rear doors opened also) in a span of 3months of me starting my tramping job as usual police not interested to busy arresting people for facebook comments and travelling 31 in a 30.

Obviously its not truck but I still feel sick my gaffer tells us now leave fuel cap unlocked as he doesn’t want lines cut, and were told to try park with little amount of fuel as possible unless were stopping in a customer yard.

How many times does it happen to you guys?

Been driving 15yrs and never had fuel nicked or trailers/loads messed with.

Were your tramping? Or just trunker? I park anywere layby, services but guess no were is safe unless customer or own depo which is fully secured

I have a database in my head of where is best and use that as much as possible.

Tramping. Including Europe and Scandinavia nowadays.

Edit. Actually that is a white lie as I have had human cargo break into a trailer before and another time hide under a load. But no fuel thefts or general stealing or vandalism.

With your boss’s attitude you might make it safer for you to make a sign and stick it on the tank
Free fuel please be quite and don’t wake me as my boss is more worried about the truck than me

Yeah, beter get that trailer home ready, after all, rules don’t apply to freeman of the land.

I did tramping for 8 years never used truckstops

In 8 years had curtains slashed once in Milton Keynes over night had few packs of bedding duvet covers nicked.
Once can’t rember where had back doors open all night full of ibc tanks they decided cut my curtains anyway.

And once at a building site a telehnder went hell for leather offloading me and stabbed his forks straight though other side and though the closed curtain

35 years tramping and I’ve never had my fuel stolen (touch wood). Closest I ever came was in Blackburn when I was in my mid twenties and returned from the pub to find a middle aged guy about to steal my fuel. Being young, dumb and full of ■■■ I gave him a kicking, only to realise that he’d probably be back to torch the truck with me in it, so I drove (over the limit and with no card in) for twenty miles or so and hid away

Apart from that I’m selective about my parking and take steps to make my fuel tank unattractive to scrotes.

35 years + .
One attempted fuel theft 20 yrs ago,.I woke up and caught them.
Opened window told them to f/off, no intention of getting out,.as I had no idea how many of them there was…also had my little boy in cab.
Guy left his electric pump lying,.I phoned Old Bill,.then drove over it smashing it,.at which point they drove off.
Old Bill turned up, and I drove to services after they signed my card.

Around same time,.woke up to find about 3 guys around my unit,.and one in my trailer, parked forward facing in a dead end, so no chance of a quick exit…again rang Old Bill who were luckily passing, and the ■■■■ s did a runner…again I went to MSA.
Full marks to coppers btw on both occasions.

Then one night at Colstetworth pub, 15 years ago, guy in back of my box van trailer…nothing much in,.so he went.
If I’d known he was on his own I would have locked the ■■■■ in and took him to Calais and dropped him off :imp: …God that would have been good.
Since then nothing.

So all in all 3 occasions in all that time,.so I suggest to o/p to be more selective where he parks, (I’m guessing lay bys ?) if he has had the same amount of incidents in 3 MONTHS :open_mouth: .

Edit Just read his other post, it IS lay bys.
Reckon theres a message there somewhere :bulb: , and tbh I would have got it the first time it happened, …but there ya go.

Its been bad for years…

I had fuel nicked while the lorry was parked up at the depot overnight, they broke the cap off to syphon the fuel out, luckily I didn’t fuel up at the end of the day, they did get about 1/2 a tank though!!!

I never had fuel nicked but did wake up one morning to find cap on tank , curtains cut was a epidemic , though I did find industrial estates / services worse that lay-bys , you’d struggle on some tris to find a piece of curtain that hadn’t been cut / repaired
The bit that really on got my nerves was the incident interview ( think that’s what they called it ) when they asked who’s fault did you think it was the curtain had bern cut , idiots , or the copper knocking on your door at 3 am to tell you your curtain had been cut & it was your fault for parking a lorry full of beer in a services ( never mind the cans were empty ) , I’ve even left back doors open , empty tri , and they still cut the curtain ( I guess ■■■■■■ off nothing to nick so thought will ■■■■ off driver )
I miss none of that now on days

Someone tried to cut their way into the roller door of a DPD trailer yesterday apparently. Not too sure what happened but was told it happened on the M6 (vague I know!). Trailer was loaded with Amazon pallets, nothing nicked though and the trailer is back at Hub 5 Hinckley Park awaiting a new door and a visit from plod.

In 40+ years, never had fuel taken. Numerous slashed curtains, but never anything taken. Obviously not worth the effort of taking heavy concrete, clay or fibre cement roofing!!

Never had anyone try to run awaywith 3 ton pieces of precast concrete yet . I leave both doors open to let them see and apart from getting a fuel tank drained one night on the A50 I’ve never had any trouble in 27 years . Be more careful where you park OP

Do you think that when we are all electric, the scrotes will park alongside and use jump leads to steal the charge from your batteries?
