Afternoon all, going to Rome next week, just want to confirm that I am travelling @ 4.1m but as I understand it (& I have no problem with anyone putting me right
France has no height limit as such?
Italy is ok up to 4.2m for Containers, intermodal or swap bodies (we will have containers on)?
Frejus tunnel is ok up to 4.3m?
The job will be tight for getting back before the Easter holiday but as I understand it Italy, no LGV movements from Friday 14th up until Tuesday the 18th? France (as I read it is ok for LGV movements right up until Sunday 16th?
As I say please feel free to correct me if I am wrong (or misinformed) on any of the above and as ever thank you for any help
That is correct about the truck ban for Easter in Italy, the trick is to park up some place decent with access to hot food and a shower, an added bonus is bus, coach or train links , to get away from the cab for a few days and sight see at any other city or town in Italy ,Venice , Florence, Rimini with its beach resort and good night life .
Even renting a car is quite cheap to do .
Or take a bicycle .
If you do end up in the Rome area, head West to the Lido beach towns on the coast .Fast and frequent bus and train links from the city of Rome to the beaches .
If you are hauling ADR, there are more travel restrictions than for general haulage, which means parking up earlier than the rest of them, this is due to lack of retained fire brigade coverage in rural areas .
ADR is not permitted in the Mount Blanc tunnel but ok for the Frejus .
Before arriving at the Frejus on the French side, stop at the Fire Brigade checkpoint, Pompiers ,so they verify the load and maybe check the ADR kit and PPE, do not go past the check point with ADR .
In Italy and heading towards France, stop about 25 miles before the Mount Blanc tunnel to obtain an emissions ticket from the office in the check point, failure to get it , means driving all the way back to get one .
Before the tunnel there is a good cafe and restaurant up the stairs, on the wall there are some photos of when they built it with facts and figures.
The locals objected to the original plan of two lanes in, two lanes out, as now it is one lane in, one lane in, due to fears of pollution, noise and increased freight traffic .
When in villages and towns, watch out for low hanging balconies on houses when turning in the bends, at night they are not easy to spot .
In rural areas, the signs do not make sense .Two signs to one place, one sign saying a different way to go .
I cant see any restrictions on Bison Fute for France before 22hrs Saturday, but it does give orange warnings for dense traffic. The Friday isn
t a bank holiday in France but doubtless many will take a few extra days off. Main routes France are OK up to 4.2m and all bridges under this height should be signed. Youre not haz are you? Tunnel charges are dependant on your Euro number so make sure it
s shown somewhere. Euro1 is now banned I think, and Euro2 costs more and due to be banned this year? Should be on your V5C. Get a return ticket for the tunnel, tis cheaper and valid for about 15days.
Thank you people, much appreciated
Just need to sort a decent backload now
Out of interest, what happened with the Sicily / Palermo job? Did you get a crossing sorted?
Back load, try Secure Cargo in Gate Bristol, Italian specialist , experienced firm.
Or EM Rogers Ltd.

He also really needs to have the Euro emissions cert, stop at bottom of Frejus and go into the hazardous office and they’ll give you a Euro sticker for the windscreen

Another great place is the Italian alpine village of quincinetto about 15 km from the blanc.Seek out a restaurant called Maria’s for seriously good nosh.the village is mesmerising old Italian architecture with incredibly good vibes that stay with you.I was bank holiday weekend there once due to a mangled clutch in mi Volvo, when the technicians returned and got me roadworthy they even got me a restaurant meal on the house, felt sorry I guess.Felt terrible leaving a hidden jewel of the Italian Alps but by god I will revisit.

Palermo job update
I got the job to send 7x20’ shipping containers down there but unfortunately there was enough time to send them by rail so I only loaded them in Southampton then ran them to Purfleet where they went onto Zeebrugge then via train to Genoa where an Italin firm I work with picked them up and sent their trucks to Palermo…
I had plenty of people willing from here but tbh the train turned out to be the better option
