For a year since getting this Cascadia I see people rushing by me then suddenly slow up so I have to pass them and they start to speed up again then once in front again they damm well slow up which as we all know is very annoying…
I have figured out the reason for the most part…
Last evening as I set out for NYC down the thruway one particularly annoying git with Florida plates on his KIA Sorrento kept doing this over and over for miles, I pulled into Ulster service area and noticed the git pulled in for fuel so at the cash desk where I got my coffee I confronted him, not in a nasty way or impolite, I just mentioned that it was dangerous to keep doing it and he agree’d but said “Every time I sped up my radar detector picked up a signal”
It suddenly clicked My truck has a built in radar beam which tells me how fast the vehicle in front is doing and applies the brakes when on cruise if I get too close, the beam was activating the detector and this must be the reason so many cars do it

No its not. I dont have that on mine and they all still do it. Its just crap American driving. I had always assumed there was a huge magnet built in to all vehicles here that meant that a car that was doing 85mph and came up to a truck doing 65mph would be forced to slow down to 65.1mph by the magnetic forcefield that would only release the car once the truck had been boxed in and forced to break due to an even slower moving vehicle, allowing the car to return to 85mph…maybe I’m just cynical.
In that case then I’m a cynic too, u then I already knew that, as did many of you
The simple reason they do this is they are just not paying any attention, most of us at some time will have been a passenger in a car where the driver is on and off the throttle, never maintaining a speed, either leaving it until the last minute & swerving over all the lanes to exit or slowing down as soon as they see the exit sign, middle lane hogggers, tailgaters, etc etc etc. To them driving is just a necessary evil so that can get to where they want to go, on the other hand we enjoy driving, so we try a little harder to do it properly
Then you have those that should know better, usually, but not always found in a truck bearing the legend Swift, Werner, JB Hunt, Schneider, CR England, Prime Inc, Covenant, CRST, US Express or Knight Transportation, why they drive as bad as they do I have no idea, maybe they just resemble the organ that they emerged onto the planet from
So do those things slam on the anchors when someone pulls right in front of you
The one we had very briefly before Vancouver got their hands on it used to back your cruise control off if you got too close to the vehicle infront, not sure what would happen if something slammed on infront of you, never tried it out. Ours also had that stupid lane drifting alarm that ‘stops you falling asleep’ by rumbling inside the door pillars on the side your wandering out of your lane from.
Also the Radar would constantly flash up collision warnings when approaching bridges, and sometimes randomly on the highway.
Whole system was kinda goofy.

When I first got it I got a flat spot because some stupid tart stopped right in front of me after pulling out, I was doing 65mph and she just pulled out and stopped, my leading drive axle locked up on it’s own.

Does it only do that on the cruise control or at any time?

No ! I wasn’t on cruise that time.
