There is a big bypass road that circumnavigates the peninsular for the city attractions and sight seeing.
The road is called Kennedy Ave and Kennedy CD, it literally goes all the way round the city in a loop.
As you drive around, it is up to you where you want to park, and find a place.
I have seen a Polish truck in the city center, and it did not attract any attention, nobody noticed it there.
Another option is to park near the airport and get a bus/taxi or train in to the city center.
There may be some coach parking areas, for a fee to park in those.Be sure to visit the Grand Bazzar covered shopping, the Blue Mosque.
The red double decker tour buses are good to hop on and off,the locals where know where to go to unwind and relax.
They go to a park,if you see some big radio and tv masts high up on a hill, there are numerous restaurants and street vendors, it is a picnic area and very popular at night.
Also a big shopping area away from the tourists, a wide and long shopping street, that becomes very busy at night. The atmosphere there is quite special.A taxi driver can take you on a night tour, agree the price before setting off to avoid nasty incidents over the price at the end.
If there is time, have a drink in the Orient Express restaurant, the history is all on the walls there, and has not changed.
The crime is very low,it is like being in a large European city, well dressed locals,a foreign lorry should be safe enough, but remove valuables just in case.Hotels are cheap, have a nice clean bed, with breakfast to get out of the cab.

Cheers for getting back Toby that was what I was after and thinks to acceptme

If possible, try and get over the bridge that enters Asia, you leave Europe on one side and Asia at the other side of the bridge, there is some Governmental buildings and old Royal Palaces to take photos of, the local kids jump off the rocks near a park.
One of the palaces has the oldest swimming pool , which is now full of green stale water.
It is a must to take a scenic boat cruiser trip along the river, you get to see the sights where they can not be seen from the road, the cafes near the Grand Bazzar can rip off tourists, they have a buffet of hot meals, and the prices are not shown or labelled, so best to ask how much before eating, small casserole pots of stews are delicous.
Have a good time, and soak up the atmosphere.

One thing you may have noticed at motorway service areas or road side stops, is the cafes will display a huge pile of white ceramic mugs and cups, when you pay for a coffee, the staff on the till put a token in a small vending machine by the till and you get a coffee from a small cheap plastic cup.
Behind the till is a very expensive coffee making machine that is for display purposes only.
Try and fit time in for a Turkish bath, you see plenty of signs for them in Istanbul, hot and cold water, and scrub down with sponges, and body massages.
It is quite likely that you will see old trucks that have been sold from the UK or Europe and will be spotted working in Turkey, some have left the old firms advertising on the side panels of the cabs or trailers.
The traffic police seem to operate 24/7/, at random spots.
In the Blue Mosque, men and women remove shoes, and women wear a face veil, you collect the shoes at the end of the tour.
There are numerous cash points in the city to take out Euros or Lira.

And if you go to the grand bazaar, once you buy ‘anything’ from 1 shop, thd owners couisins, brothers etc will have something else you want and they’ll insist on taking you there
Enjoy driving round the ring road, its great fun :open_mouth:

I don’t know what it’ s like in Istanbul or whetever you’ll be changing into lira but earlier this year in tourist spot, changing some money in a jewellers he tried to rip me off…wanted to change £100 at a rate of 2.90 to the quid,£100 is easy to work out your head right…the lad had an exchange rate app on his phone, tapped in the figures and sure enough up comes 290tl…
Now then,he them says he doesn’t have enough and can only change £80,taps it into his app on his phone and comes up with 208tl…now,my girl at the time checks it on her own phone and that works out at at a rate of 2.60 tl,reckoned he had two apps just to con the tourists but he insisted black was blue.

Probably no use to you but just a heads up eh!

Good to see you around Toby :stuck_out_tongue: hope you and the wife are well.
