I happen to know that the above site is less than 2 weeks old- another example

advantagehgv.co.uk/?gclid=CM … 3godg3K95Q

Quote- AdvantageHGV is one of the UK’s leading providers of HGV Jobs. We have access to literally 1000’s of HGV Jobs from across the UK. Our jobs are updated and added in real time - all complete with contact numbers, names and addresses. AdvantageHGV is the place to be for HGV Jobs.

this is obviously why lots of the members on here can’t find work- these have all the jobs

i think the people who run that used to run clearstone HGV

SimonB:
This information regarding the driver shortage comes from the Chartered Institute for Logistics:

CILT(UK) > Pages

It is the ‘Road Haulage Forum’ not the RHA who quoted the figures. So I can see how the person on the phone could confuse them.

The CILT suggests that the ‘chronic shortage’ is due to occur ‘by 2010’ - so this is not fasle advertising. This is a Government backed body making these claims.

No governing body has since suggested that there is no longer a driver shortage, so the 50,000 - 80,000 figure still stands. This is the only survey available to quote from.

These figures have got to be wrong, howcome I’m unemployed and can’t get a job?

Because those figures are from 2003 :exclamation: :exclamation:

This was the reason i joined in this thread, the adverts were being shown here but as Rikki explained, they had removed Google Ads. However I am still waiting for a reply from RT.com

Dear Editor

I am an avid user of your sister site TruckNet UK, a long time reader of your magazines and a lorry driver of over 30 years although my interest in road transport goes back over 45 years. I raised my concerns about the advertisements carried on these sites for companies such as Sterling, Advantage and Pathway. Other names are available.

As there are many varied reports of the experiences of the drivers who have used the services of these training providers on the TN forums. We questioned whether it is a good idea for your site to also carry these adverts. Especially in this current climate of job losses and drivers worried about the company they work for surviving the downturn. It is a common myth that there is a worldwide shortage of drivers, but in reality anyone knows there is a shortage of good well paid positions for experienced drivers.

I don’t expect Google to drop the adverts but maybe a review of your pages will help to allay the fears of many. Because so many people choose Commercial Motor, Motor Transport & Truck and Driver on which to base their purchasing decisions because of your wisdom and experience of the industry.

Even if my fears are not real, the chance of a new driver with absolutely no experience being offered a 40-50k job driving a fuel tanker after 4 days training and a 90 minute test are going to be rare in the least. Also there are some concerns that these companies are offering the Operator CPC as an incentive instead of the Driver CPC. I am sure that you would not want to mislead drivers that you endorse these companies when there are so many good local training providers who rely on word of mouth and test passes as a reference.

I will be interested to see your comments.

Sincerely Yours

Well Done Rog for raising the issue again

Most I ever got was £320 doing night work for agency ,work only lasted a few weeks though.I would like to see the lying ZB fined for false advertising.

Rog is a super hero to all truckers the country wide

Sometimes a simple phone call will suffice to make them ‘think’ about possible consequences of false advertising, especially when the company has STATED a ‘FACT’ that they cannot back up with current figures from a recognised information source.

The problem is that some are worded in such a way that they do not say that there IS a specific driver shortage etc and therefore cannot be ‘taken to task’ on their info.

If a company said that they predict, or there may be, or there is likely to be, a 20,000 driver shortage by 2011 then how can that be disputed  that is just their prediction and does not state a fact.

hi all been reading all the posts with great intrest as about to continue with my class2. I keep getting texts and junk mail through all the time from the same company £1200 for both c & ce will pass both with no problem with no shortage of job offers all paying top money and all this can be yours in as little as 10 days. I know i aint the sharpest tool in the box but can they expect anyone to belive wot with the world facing impending doom that by signing up to easy monthly payments that all this will just fall into palce.
Remember that old saying if it sounds to good to be true it is

These are who I NEARLY went with but decided not to, they also mention a driver shortage.

OH DEAR !!! - I think I’ve just put my big foot in it again…

I called the above on their FREE 0800 number - that was nice of them to have one  - and asked them where they got the figure of 50,000 current vacancies from. They said the Institute of Logistics.

I called the Institute of Logistics and they said that they would look into this as they had not given out such information :exclamation: :exclamation: - they not very happy…

The IOL said they would call me back tomorrow or Monday with their findings.

SimonB:
The Institute of Logistics do say there is a driver shortage:

CILT(UK) > Pages

They state that by 2010 there will be an HGV driver shortage of ‘60-80,000’

The article is predicting the shortage for next year - and we’re not there yet (its still 2009 guys) - so no one is lying. It is a fact put out by the Chartered Institute of Logistics & Transport.

What is the problem with this?

The only true thing I can see is that most agency drivers should be sent on ships to Australlia

That was not only some time ago but is a PREDICTION not a STATEMENT of FACT.

Some of the sites we are talking about actually STATE that there is a CURRENT driver shortage of so many thousands which means they are stating that as a FACT. That ‘FACT’ cannot be proven as such by those stating it so it is, therefore, a FALSE statement.
If they said WE THINK there MAY be a driver shortage at present then that is a different matter as it is just an OPINION.

I could say that I PREDICT a driver shortage of 1 million by 2020 but it would be hard to prove as a FACT either way at this point in time so is, therefore, just my opinion.

Everyone is entitled to an opinion whether that is an individual or a company but it must be made clear in the case of a company that it is just that, an opinion or they leave themselves open to claims of false advertising.
