07 plate 2629 6x4 we’ve had since new on long term lease and has only covered 222’000 KM’s.
So far its had the following:
Fuel tank (rotted out)
Heater pipes (rotted out)
Main compressor pipe (rotted out)
Batteries.
Turbo (seized)
Gear change part on top of gear box.
Intercooler pipe clips broken.
ABS warning light on caused by a false feed from Ad blue system thus frying ABS control module. 2 grand or more!!
Hydraulic oil tank (rotted out but not Merc related to be fair)
And then today,
Intercooler blown apart due to rotten seam on the core!
What’s gona be next?
I reckon a clutch has to be in the post.
All the above has happened in about the last 3 years.
Is there worse out there or what?
Luckily its going next year but it’ll probably be an Antos or an Actros.
Well, trying to rational…! The batteries I could forgive on a 7 yr old truck. The gear links and turbo could be down to how it’s been driven. And that amount of rot - is it a total coincidence it lives in Cornwall (based on your profile). Is it near the coast? Is salt in the air?
The rot is really the thing here as a 7 year old truck should not be falling apart at the rate that one is…
Sounds like it’s time to give it a Viking send off into the sea…

Nope!
Ive heard from a Merc fitter that this engine likes eating turbo’s. He said you can run one for 700 K with no problems but another may kill one every 18 months or so, so there is no rhyme nor reason with em. So that aint my driving! I cant be that bad if its still on the original clutch too!
