Is a tacho needed

Hi all

I am some help and advice if possible.

I am wanting to start a commercial grass cutting business and I will need a 7.5ton beaver tail truck to move equipment from site to site…

If I am working with in a 60 mile radius of my base and because the machines on the back are technically a tool of my trade will I still require to use a tacho.

Do I require an operators license??

I appreciate any feedback

Andy

This seems to be you …
gov.uk/drivers-hours/exemptions-from-eu-law
vehicles or combinations of vehicles with a maximum permissible weight of 7.5 tonnes or less that are used for carrying work equipment for the driver where the distance is less than 100km
= EXEMPT TACHO

Not sure about O licence so best left to those in the know about that

DRIVER CPC
Exemptions from needing Driver CPC
You do not need Driver CPC if you’re using the vehicle for:
carrying material or equipment you use for your job, as long as driving is less than 30% of your rolling monthly work

Thank you…it seems a very ‘grey’ area for what I am looking to do.

Who would I be best speaking to for clarification??

Not grey at all but to put your mind at rest please post an average day such as …

load/check vehicle 30 mins
drive 1 hr
unload/cut grass/load 3 hrs
drive 30 mins
unload/cut grass/load 2 hrs
drive 1 hr

Or something like that :bulb:

Leave yard at 6.30
20min drive to first job
Average job 1 hour
Average drive to next site 10 min
Finish last site at 5.00 then 30 min drive back to yard

Other days I might drive 20 minutes to a job and be there all day…

Certainly below the tacho threshold of 30% - more like 20 to 25% at best
