Irvine - A75 / A76 or M74 / A71

From England, which way would you go to Irvine, it’s 6 of one half dozen of t’other

Hi most of the Ayrshire motors use the A75/A76. Eddie.

M74 A71 is the least stressful, the other way seems never ending

m74/a71 would be easiest.

a76 is a long never ending road, you can make good time unless you get stuck behind some 40 mph specialists!

I cannae be doing with either way  Id come off the m74 where the old ramage depot is fly along there(b road cant mind the name) till ■■■■■■■■ cut up auycinleck(14’6 bridge) then on the A76.

That road is really quiet and fairly straight apart from 2-3 miles section of really bendy stuff so you can get your foot down - even get a frenchy tipper chasing you if you’re lucky.

not aware of any poles driving for jenky, especially on the scottish work. you maybe mixing them up with one of the tipper firms in that area?

i would use a75 then a 76 to killie then on to irvine

Thanks all, will probably decide when I get near a75 and see how i feel !!! Use to run the route every week and remember the never ending journey to Ayr !!!

You could try new M74 extension right up to glasgow down M77 not much of a difference time wise. Twin track all the way.

A75/A76 is my usual route as I tend to stop off at the indian takeaway in Sanquhar along the way and there are a few decent sized laybys en-route along with the tesco at Dumfries for breaks if necessary.

Alternative is M74 till the Cairn Lodge junction and then take the first exit of the roundabout towards Muirkirk/■■■■■■■■ but instead of hanging a right at the 4-way lights in ■■■■■■■ towards Auchinleck, go straight on and then turn right at the police station and that will take you on to the A76 and bypass Auchinleck (and the low bridge).

A71 would be my last choice, no particular reason other than I just don’t like it!

There’s nothing in it either way in terms of time or fuel consumption in my experience.

i agree wi chaversdad,m74,off at junction 8 onto the a71 for kilmarnock, far better than the a76 or the a70.

wheey some home town talk

good luck whichever way you decide to take haha
