Morning Whiplash,
Great pics again, thanks for posting them,
Last pic is the Menai bridge, went over it in the car a few weeks ago and the Mrs commented there ain’t much room, she did not believe me when I told her that trucks used to use it! Cheer’s Pete

Very well done Pete!
Before the Pont Britannia took away all the fun!

Some excellent pictures there Whiplash, reminds me of better times, thanks for posting. Are DHL who took over Danzas a big player over there?

Indeed they are shortwalk.
Took over Danzas after a dodgy courtship with DFDS,and previous takeover of Meadows.
Remember these?

A number of years ago, there was a fodder crisis in Ireland. No foodstuff for animals, because of poor summers.A few thousand loads were imported, mainly from the UK,but a few came from France. Our gang were helping out for a few days.Nice work for something different.Beats delivering to shops.

Whiplash,
It was a good climb up that bank after crossing the bridge, then that A5 through all the villages across Anglesey keeping an eye out for the boys in blue, then you had the Ministry at Valley! Cracking pic’s again, Cheer’s Pete

Got caught out a few times in Valley Pete. And you know, they were a long way away from the worst up there.Dont be a smart boy and youll not have a problem.Yeah, coming through the old Menai, you were going slow,to start the climb alright.Nowadays just keep her lit!
Bad crash there one night if I recall.A man heading south from Anglesey Aluminium, came down that same hill, and hit the brakes. No headboard on the trailer and the whole lot shifted.Took cab clean off the lorry.Needless to say, driver didn`t survive, rest his soul.
Glad you like the pics.
Niall

Pete,if you remember the Menai Bridge, then surely you remember this place?
First pic is Holyhead bound, where you were straight on the approach to and out of the castle walls.
Second is London bound, where you had to do a sharp turn right to be straight to enter the castle.

HI whiplash i like your posts, did you ever come across a driver called {Patrick O’connell Maguire] the last time i seen him he was on Stephensons a fridge man he shown me once a photo of a car called a COUGAR or python, something like that sleek big exhausts spots car, that he had ?also that he was one of the 10 most eligible bachelors in EIRE .

this is in the 1980s. TO be honest back then we all kept slightly apart, but he was a real gent whatever effiliation one had .he left his wallet in my cab[it slipped out of his pocket my passenger side, and did not know]we were on the first service station in France from IRUN, it was a couple of hours before i seen it, so at the next junction going to BORDEAUX I TURNED AND WENT BACK and he was still there i gave it him ,and left and never seen him again. Then years later i was on TRANSCONfor time and got robbed in Dublin market [THE LOAD NOT ME] ,i just wondered if he was around although he would not remember me.just getting the IRISH CONNECTION .

Anyone remember the Green Merc of McNamare Int, Taken in Dun Laoghaire if my dad was away and I wanted to go to Ireland then always get a lift over and spent the weekend with Dads boss Jimmy Lowe ( J.J.Lowe )
