Ireland - UK which ferries do drivers get a cabin

Im a driver from Northern Ireland and have only ever done Irish work, but looking to try UK work. Could anyone tell me on which ferries do drivers get a cabin and on which ones you don’t and how long the crossing is?

Cabins on rosslare to Pembroke and Fishguard. Belfast to Birkenhead, warrenpoint to heysham. Not really on long enough on Dublin Holyhead or Belfast cairnryan.

Birkenhead- Belfast you get one, 8hr crossing thereabouts.

I was once put on a freight ferry from Troon to Belfast…is it still running now btw?
I’d missed the Stranraer boat because of an earlier breakdown, so my firm booked me an alternative.
.
I was the only driver on there, everything else was unaccompanied trailer only.
They put me up in the crew quarters, but the bunks were only sectioned off by a curtain from the rest of the area.
The big fat guy who was the cook, showed me to the sleeping quarters,.and told me he would wake me for breakfast .

I was driving a Belgian regd truck, so the rest of crew thought I was foreign,.and I could hear them talking through the curtain giving it a bit of banter about me,.but I made them no wiser and just laughed about it…

I was ok to we got out of port and I rang my mate on the same firm to tell him.I was on this ancient slow old tub on my own…I was ok until he said 'Oh no, do you mean ‘The Gay Boat’ .
Being that I was miles out to sea stuck on there with them,.and not sure if my mate was joking (he was btw  ) I never ■■■■ slept that night.
Cracking breakfast next morning to make up for it though.

Sossiges…

For breakfast then.

Yep, the full Monty…but at least I didn’t leave with an arse like a Japanese flag eh?

Cairnryan-Larne/Belfast they’re there if you want to use them but with the short sail times it’s pretty much only those who get seasick who do.

No cabins on either of those two routes
Stena - Cairnryan to Belfast provide about 30 reclining seats in the drivers lounge so you can snore along with Bogdan and his mates .
P+O - Cairnryan to Larne have about 8 couchetts and 30 reclining seats for a similar experience except with the added bonus of 8 odd pairs of boots off at the ends of the couches for a little extra fragrance and trip hazards in the dark

You get a cabin on Dublin/HH but think have to share with another driver.
Belfast/Cairnryan they’re there if you want one but cost extra and it’s only 2hrs 15min crossing.
None on Larne/Cairnryan.
Cabins on Rosslare/Fishguard and Rosslare/Pembroke too.

Sounds like the Troon to Larne boat that used to be run by P+O . Been gone 10 years at least
edit January 2016 was the last time the boats sailed .

Yep,.that was it, Larne not Belfast. :unamused:
Must have been around 2009 ish.

I used to use the Cairnryan to Larne service many years ago, could be the 70s.We had a cabin then. And car passengers to put up with. That was before the new access road to Larne harbour was built.Regular drivers and staff knew each other.I could ring up the Larne office an hour before departure time from Ballygowan,an hour away, and they would hold the boat with an empty space for me.The ship sailed before i got out of the cab.Good bunch of lads.
Could it be Transport Ferry Services ?

Yes.
If you want a cabin of your own wee tip:
Go along lanes while waiting to board and ask any “Subbies” for their cabin ticket as most won’t go upstairs.
Might have changed since I was last on a tub Summer 2021 though!!!
