Invalid card error code 48 IMPORTANT

Ok I have been allowed to work as DHL have received this email

Digital Driver Card Issues
Â
The DVLA are today aware of problems on certain Digital Driver Cards, especially those issued between 2007 and 2008.
Â
These errors are reported on the display of the Digital Tachograph Head on insertion of the Drivers Digital Card and include the following messages.
Â
“ERROR CODE 48”
“CARD ERROR”
“CARD NOT VALID”
“CARD EXPIRED” - When the card has not expired
Â
Â
If any of these issues have been reported the driver must produce two manual print outs from the Tachograph Head, one at the start of the journey and another at the end. Both prints must be marked with:-
Â
The drivers full name
Any manual entries needed to show periods of other work, availability, and rest or break
The drivers signature
Â
It is important that sufficient supply of print rolls are issued to these drivers. DHL Policy is that the driver carries 3 spare rolls and one in the machine.
Â
DVLA have instructed us NOT to report the card as malfunctioning or return it, but to ask the driver to try the card again tomorrow (Tuesday 27th March).

Regards

Matt

Glad to see I’m not the only one. Mine was playing up too. Did printouts of course.

Not in till Weds again so hopefully it’ll be working by then.
My card was a reissue from March 2011

Can please have the phone Number youve called. DHL are not allowing me to drive until my card works.

I work for DHL and if we have issues with a lost or faulty card there is no problem with us driving and doing the two daily printouts. Why they won’t let you work is beyond me because the regulations make allowances for faulty cards.

I know the TM, and if you did, you wouldn’t need to ask the question!

even though it said my card wasnt valid it still had my details on the print out?

Matt

I bet there some sweating drivers who will get a more relaxed sleep now they think they may be getting fresh cards.

There is even a bracelet being sold!

I am still waiting for that day when the sat nav eventually fails

i work for DHL too and our lot grounded a driver with a faulty card 3 weeks ago and put him on shunting as they say its DHL policy not to allow a driver with a faulty card to drive…however they did try and make him drive one night as they were stuck for a driver…he declined …and was threatened over the phone with all manner…but it turned out there was no unit available anyway so the boss just made himself look more of a ■■■■ than usual.
oh and this is a site that insists its usual shunter(me)has to use a card for every vehicle shunt no matter how small the distance…untill it suits them…no wonder we have lost the contract with the bunch of goons running the show?

sunday night i put my card in my truck and it worked fine…30 minutes later i took it out and put it in a unit to shunt and got a error48 invalid card message…i put it back in the origional truck again and it worked ok so i left it in…card is working ok tonight too.

So has anyone’s card magically started working this morning?

Alex

Talk about conflicting advice, this is the latest gem From the DVLA.

Where’s the conflicting advice? seems straight forward. Card not working - send it back for a free replacement and carry on driving.

there is an existing procedure for faulty cards. This doesn’t mention anything about whether other drivers are having problems or how many lads at the depot suddenly have a card problem. Your card doesn’t work - send it away for a new one.

From everything I have read I would imagine there is a possibility of delays for replacement cards therefore the 15 days allowed may not suffice - in which case I would expect some kind of short term relaxing of the rules.

Of course they may all start working tomorrow but I don’t think so

But 24 hours is a long time.

I had the same happen to me this morning, drove an Artic over to Tonbridge and the card was fine, took it out and put it in another vehicle, reported it at 10.15am, DVLA told me to fill out a D777B and send the card back, so it was posted within the hour, hopefully should get a new one within 15 days.

I am an agency driver, and have been getting this too.

I was fine in vehicles wieh Siemens Tacho units, but have been driving vehicles with VDO units and getting this message.

I wonder if it is a software messup in one kind of unit?

No its a batch of faulty cards. There is a date for them somewhere on here but it seems to be cards which need re-newing in the next 12 months or so.

I still wonder… After getting this problem in a VDO tachographed vehicle yesterday, I was in a different verhicle that had a Siemans tachograph today and had no problems whatsoever.

Perhaps we are looking at a challenge with both cards and/or tachographs.

Had the same problem with mine, although it works in some trucks (mostly the older in the fleet and a hand full of new Volvos) but not in others.

Got my replacement free card in the post this morning.

I passed this information to the DVLA this morning. They were really very grateful for it, as it does point towards individual tachograph manufacturers (which will no doubt cost them money to fix) rather than being all the DVLA’s fault which will cost the taxpayers money.

Anyway, that the same card works differently in different tacho units points their investigation in a new direction.
