Interview lined up for december

I have found a small company 25 trucks based in southern alberta who have available lmo’s I plan to come out to alberta next month for an interview any lads care to give me any advice or tips’ apart from the obvious pay and conditions if I’m lucky enough to get an lmo would I need to take out medical insurance for myself .it will just be me travelling to Canada I’m not sure if the company’s medical insurance would cover me straight away also is it quite easy to open a bank account’ I was thinking about opening HSBC do they have branches in Canada also studying for air brake test and theory test before I can take my truck test is the air test practical or written and what about the theory thanks lads

don’t know nothing about it (live in wales) but I would have thought that is a pretty evil time to go …COLD…

What’s the company mate

If you have Barclays bank account then go to Scotia Bank in Canada; they are linked together.
Air brake test is practical and just needs practice, practice and more practice.
It will be cold but there might be a Chinook to break it up.

Not true Chris there is a multi choice theory test where you got to score min of 25/30 it covers everything even a few school bus questions.

Wouldn’t worry to much though sauce about that yet get the job first lol its taking about 6 weeks to get name on LMO atm so plenty of time yet. Who you looking at? If in the lethbridge area give me a shout I’m around at weekends. Dont worry bout banks they’re easy enough to open an account with scotiabank are pretty good

Cheers lads when I spoke to the guy in the office he said about 4 weeks to get my name on an LMO 'my questions will mainly be pay and conditions if I’m going to have to pay for my own training and also if there going to supply some accomadation. Pay scale is percentage trips mostly pacific north west USA and alberta Canada it seems to be snowing heavy in northern alberta anyone been up that way

My 3 sons all live in the Edmonton area and yes they had a good dump of snow at the weekend.

Yes Chris is correct , sure there’s the percentage theory test which needs a couple of hours reading up on , in case the school bus / rail crossing questions come up , but as far as the A endorsement is concerned it’s practice , then try again until you have it off to a tee . Long time ago for me , but iirc I broke it down into 5 sections and gave each part a relevant letter as the trigger to each section , bearing in mind the test was taken after 3 days it worked for me . Probably struggle to sit the test now though

If I had to retake my air brake test again I am absolutely confident that I’d fail dismally. I barely knew what I was doing at the time and have forgotten what little I did know in the following 5 years since.

Must be careful what we say , after all it’s part of our daily pre trip :sunglasses:

If I had to take my air brake test again now, I’m absolutely confident that I’d pass with flying colours. I knew exactly what I was doing the first time around and 5 years of comprehensive pre-trips have fine tuned my skills with regards air brakes to the high level of competence that I now enjoy.

I fail to see what your reply has to do with my post

So it seems there is quite a lot of info to take in once the air brake endorsement is done and hopefully passed 'is there is a theory test to take before I could start with a driving school .

Really? Then that’s a shame because I was trying to be helpful and give you some sources of information.
The second 2 links have settings for other areas as well as Edmonton.
2 of my sons are truck drivers in Edmonton, the other is a heavy equipment mechanic for a crane company.
Still if you don’t need a bit of local help regarding housing and stuff, I’ll bow out.
Good luck, I’m sure you will do just fine.

Big jons dad…well I thought it was very imformative and I aint going there … perhaps OP intends to live in truck in car park…

Thanks Cliffy.
Walmart is where a lot of the truckers and the RVs park up overnight so maybe he is too?

I could, if I could be arsed to now, post links to the drivers handbooks, the airbrake test details and the theory tests for Alberta but after the reaction to the last bit of help I offered, I think I’ll waste my time elsewhere.
The OP can find them himself now or manage without.
He’ll be fine, loads of other drivers were.

Likewise (cough)

OP , try the Government of Alberta Ministry of Transportation site , might give you a bit of an insight .

^^^This^^^ is the reason that more and more legislation is being forced on truck drivers. HTH
