I don’t know if many have covered this subject before or not, but here goes!
I’m on contract with Orange on my Blackberry and have an inclusive internet data unlimited usage too.
If you want free 3G internet on a laptop without having to get a separate dongle, get a blackberry!
I use the Blackberry desktop software on my laptop to connect my laptop through my phone (using it as a modem) and use the internet for emails, check CCTV at home, Facebook etc etc.
A real money saver. 
iPhone 4S & 5 can be set up to create a wifi hotspot. Very easy to set up and use.

So can a lot of modern phones including my Sony Xperia.
Isn’t it called “tethering” .alot of the phone companys used to put small print in your contract about not using the phone for this, god knows how they’d find out

think every computer has its own IP address even though u tether to ur phone
Wait till 2017 and the vosa will just have to scan your number plate and all will come up .
Drive time ,waiting time,poa,rest, and so forth.thats if your fully digital though .

It is.
My Motorola Android phone will do it, but it does warn me it will be an even bigger battery chomping monster than it usually is. No problem if the charger works, different story if it’s toast.

Depending on when the price plan was taken out will depend on how you’re charged for tethering on the iPhone. For price plans created before June 2011 all iPhone plans required a separate tethering APN which resulted in a separate tethering charge. For price plans created and taken after June 2011 tethering usage is now taken from your standard monthly data allowance, or if exceeded charged at the standard additional rates.

Just watch out if you are on a sub network like Tesco mobile or Giffgaff. They won’t allow you to make a personal wifi hotspot on an iPhone, it’s not available.
