Well picked one up 2 weeks ago in Dallas 65000 miles on it, what a piece of junk. Was told we were getting Volvo, last minute change got the Inter.
Its going back for service this week, requesting a change of motor.
It couldn’t pull me out of bed on any morning, let alone a Monday. Sounds nice, a sweet note on it, that’s all I can say good about it.
Dash light shows exhaust temp to hot, oil temp rises, have to switch fan on to cool engine down. Constantly needs regen or at least warning light say’s so, don’t see any difference in performance. Call maintenance shop, know less than me lol. New engine they say, don’t know much about them.
Smack my head on shelves above wind shield, cupboards rattle so bad there’s more cardboard in the cab than the trailer. Steering wheel is offset 1.5 / 2 inches to the right of center, really noticeable in City driving, and dam uncomfortable.
Not impressed at all, does anyone else have one?
Paul
I’m very glad to say that I don’t have any experience of the ProStar at all
Is that a 2011 model Paul, the one with enhanced EGR that has 4 radiators and intercoolers all over the place so it doesn’t melt the hood?
Is it based on the CAT block or is that just the big 15ltr one? I know they had a technology swap thing going on with MAN, I had heard that they were going to have a reworked MAN engine?
Hi Mark, it is the engine you describe, old MAN block and CAT head. As you know they did not go to SCR, they went the Max exhaust gas recircalation route. No extra coolers fitted, huge radiator and fan, the water temp rises slightly on a hill, but its the oil temp rise that bothers me so I over-ride the auto fan to bring both temps down. I run with a 15/20000 lb pay load, 90% interstate miles 600 miles /day. Its a light load easy terrain trip, I am not sure about running one at max weight over a more demanding route.
Its difficult to get MPG figures as there is three drivers on rotation running 4 trips each / week 6 round trips at 1205 miles per round trip.
At 7200 / wk, 29000 miles / mth, they normally trade tractors yearly, it will be interesting to see how long they keep these, other motors currently being Volvo’s with D13 scr and ■■■■■■■ isx 15 l scr.
How are you anyway, I see your input on scrapbook memories drew some attention, you wind fellow Brit;s up like I do Americans Lol.
Regards Paul.
