Industrial Action

For your information, we have received the following communication from P&O Ferries which may affect cross channel journeys by Ferry:

"P&O Ferries advises that following failed pay talks yesterday in Paris, French port control officers will be holding a national day of industrial action commencing at 08.00 tomorrow (Thursday 28 March, 2013) which is likely to affect the majority of ports in France.

It is as yet unclear as to the kind of action that will be held which may vary from a ‘go slow’ to a temporary or total suspension of services for a 24 hour period.

Bar a last minute breakthrough in the negotiations we must assume that there could be disruption to the cross- Channel services between Dover and Calais and the other French Channel ports.

We therefore advise our customers of the potential for long delays between Thursday morning and Saturday morning due to the likely knock-on effect of the disruption and queuing.

Tourist passengers will today be given the option of either sailing before the industrial action commences or delaying their departures until Saturday when P&O Ferries will have spare capacity. Anyone who chooses to turn up and wait during the period of the dispute is advised to expect long delays and to prepare accordingly by bringing food and drink.

Freight customers are being advised to try and arrive at the respective port of embarkation as early as possible in order to remain ahead of any potential delays. For departures from Calais this would be around 06.00 and for Dover 05.00 on 28 March (cleared through immigration and check-in and ready for loading).

As we understand it the action will last for a full 24 hours and should end on 29 March at 08.00 local time in Calais (07.00 UK).

We regret that our information cannot be more specific at this point but we will obviously keep updated as details become available.

Please accept that this situation is totally outside our control but rest assured that P&O Ferries will do its utmost to keep delays to the minimum possible.

The company is in close contact with the French authorities and the British government in a bid to exert political pressure to resolve the dispute."

For anybody using Brittany Ferries, I have just contacted their customer services dept. and they stated that it will not affect their crossings. If I do hear anything to the contrary, I will post it on here.

Eurotunnel Freight also claim that they will not be affected by the action, we will see !!!
