Importing

Has anyone ever imported a truck from the USA? If so, do you have any advice?
Cheers

its not a problem apart from the cost…however, depends what you want to do with it. If your going to work it, will need to pass our own construction and use regs but, if you want it as a show truck/private use then it should be ok to just use it.

You need to find a reputable company used to exporting vehicles, theres loads of them stateside. Import duty needs to be thought about, depending on overall value it could end up quite a hit…

Its easier to buy one in France, there are several big importers.
They can also do the conversions, some of the US trucks don’t have front brakes.
Lights have to be adapted, seatbelts changed for E approved ones etc.
The paperwork is the easy part, but you first have to get it past HMRC, and pay VAT and import tax.
Than get it plated (even for a showtruck) and IVA approved.
it’s doable, but it will take a bit of time.

The truck I’ve seen is only £3800 And it’d be used for private/shows only.

Certain recovery companies have imported a lot of them in the past but have stopped because of the Whole Vehicle Type regs. An American long cab tractor unit will add a lot of length to your truck, much more than an old Volvo NH or Scania T-type; unless it’s just for shows or (maybe) for heavy haulage (and US trucks have a 36-tonne maximum gross weight), it’s hardly worth it.
