I’m developing an idea to help prevent immigrants sneaking onto trucks at Calais and other ports. They are putting themselves at great danger and can put the driver at risk of emotional stress should an immigrant be killed in or under his truck. Am I also right in saying that for each immigrant caught by customs (once past a certain point) the driver is fined £2000 for each immigrant found on their truck?
What I would like to know is what prevention methods are already in place on the truck and what prevention methods are in place in the port.
If anyone could point me in the direction to where I could fine this information then I would be extremely thankful.
The fine is going up to £ 3000 for each illegal found.
In the port, they use Co2 monitoring with a long probe inserted in the trailer curtain.
Sniffer dogs, the immigrants have the smell of smoke on them from bonfires.
X ray machines are used to scan lorries.
Heart rate monitoring is used.
Illegals burn off their finger prints and bin their passport so the French can not send them home.
It is the fault of the system in the UK, free housing, they are told to make their own way to a detention centre if found in a lorry that has arrived in the UK.
They don’t go and run off to get cash in hand work in car washes and arable farms/packing plants.
Most drivers start the journey to the port, by being four hours away, and not sleep in the port area.
Drivers are attacked and get robbed by illegal gangs.

Thanks for your responses. I was never in any doubt that others would be working on prevention, his way seems different from my way, but I’m sure any truckers would welcome all measures that work.
I probably know who you are! In any case, my application for HO/DTI funding for my anti-clandestines project was turned down (so the problem will just get worse) but if you need any help/advice then let me know.
Hi Chirs,
How do you think you know me? I’m only at the idea phase, so I am just testing the water so see what’s all ready out there, and it doesn’t seem like there is a lot in terms of prevention, and those in charge seem more concerned with finding them, making profit from the drivers. What was the reason that your method was turned down and who did you apply to for funding?
Bulldog locks for back doors or padlocks there are also the steel wire security seals , tir cords for curtainsiders but these can be overcome by cutting/glueing them back together or use of a ratchet strap over the roof in the middle pull down and the buckles can easliy be unhooked from the rail underneath and by simply repeating this in reverse once those who have paid the smugglers are on board , tir cord intact and seal undamaged apart from these i don’t know of other solutions apart from specially designed trailers that have better security built into them,
An easy solution is to send them back anyone in the UK without the correct documentation you get kicked out take the do gooder lawyers out of the equation take away the incentive for the smuggling in the first place. Have just come into Calais nearly 3 hours from 3km from the port to the lanes illegals everywhere none of them looked to hard done by to me mostly men aged 18 to 30 fairly well dressed and all clean and tidy hardly a picture of oppression
