The lawyer rang today, my approval notice from Canadian immegration is in
All I have to do now, is cross the border, pay up $150 for processing, and I’m working! (oh, and pass my class 1 Canadian licence - but what the heck…)
plays God Save the Queen real loud and salutes the Union Flag

While your about it Ali, see what Canadian Immigration said about you getting approved too! also see if you can get the Canadians to help you with your English spelling
Sorry ol’ gal, I know my spelling ain’t the best either, but I could’nt resist a little ■■■■ take
Glad your ’ in’ though , enjoy! and while you are riding around keep a look out for British Food. That is one of the biggest things I miss about running the road in Canada, ( If you could especially keep your eyes peeled for some British Smarties…I really miss them )
Ere Cliff mate
They sell British style smarties up here. I’ll check them out and see if they’re imports or locally made. If they’re imports, you want me to mail you one?
Not a tube, until you quit the [zb] taking You can have them on rations until you’re trained

I had a spaniel once who could pick up a smartie in his teeth without breaking it. Just thought I’d mention it in case you get postal damage
Moral - use spaniel post. Now if only I could have got him to map read.

I wouldn’t play GOD SAVE THE QUEEN to loudly Alli; it is frowned on in many places in Canada. Forget the Union Jack.
You must learn to play:
“OH CANADA”
and salute the red Maple Leaf flag.
But no overt displays of patriotism please. We leave that sort of thing to the Yanks.

What are British style Smarties Cliff?
Don’t they sell Smarties in the USof A?
Rowntree- MacIntosh (Canada) sells Smarties; Kit-Kats, Macintosh Toffee (that stuff used to ■■■■ the fillings right out of your teeth) and etc.
Yes; we do Pancake Tuesday here in Canada but not with Lemon & Sugar. Maple Syrup is the Canadian pancake topping of choice.
One thing we do up here that I don’t think is too common south of the border; is the BURNS SUPPER.
Roast Beef, tatties, bashed neeps.
and of course Haggis!
Oh, by the way, “Mushie Peas”?
There is a fish & chip store in Mississauga Ont. that sells mushie peas.
They must be an aquired taste. I didn’t mind them when I ordered some; but don’t make them a “must buy” when having fish and chips.
HEY HEY HEY
Yesterday (Weds 12th) I was in Springfield MA and went into a scale house for my ticket, the guy asked if I was British When I said yes he handed me a giant tube of Roundtrees Fruit Pastills

Doesn’t go down too well with this lifelong republican either. Always did prefer the English flag and Land of Hope & Glory. However I have always felt a bit uneasy at overt retro patriotism by people who migrate to one country but become more patriotic about the old. When I had only been in Oz for one week a mate gently criticised me for inadvertantly referring to England as ‘home’ saying, ‘this is your home now’.
Consequently I have always tried to assimilate and feel very French now. The Marseillaise brings a lump to my throat and I sing the words lustily when appropriate. The design of the Tricolour is perhaps a bit unimaginative but it flutters alongside St. George (as they both did in the windscreen of the truck) if France is playing England . I haven’t quite passed the Tebbit test yet, but always support France against any others.
Enough. Too serious. Perhaps the best advice is ‘when in Rome…etc’ and remember most resentment in England against Jamaicans and Asians is caused not by racism so much as by their (forced, it’s a vicious circle) apparent loyalty to somewhere many have never seen, rather than the country that provides their home and livelihood.
Trust me, I love Canada, and I still love ol’ England too. The union flag is in one corner of the province flag. I’m just waiting for the spring, and I’ve got some of the Canuck trucknet people to promise to take me out and teach me to sing “Oh Canada” at extreme volumes Then I’ll know both
I was flying the St.Georges cross back home, and the Union Flag sometimes too. Handy things Euro cups, they give you plenty of chances to buy patriotic flags. I saw a truck yesterday on the way to the border with the British flag and the Canadian one stuck to the bug-shield on the front of the truck. Think I’ll do the same when I get my own. Love both countries? Fly both flags
I believe for your citizenship exam, they make you sing “Oh Canada” in both English and French. Then you need to write a 5000 word essay on what “The true north, wild and free” means.

Exactly what I did Alli (except read English for British) and the French loved it. It showed a commitment to my country of choice but demonstrated an earlier loyalty and gave them a topic of interest too.
Exactly why I’m going for citizenship, it doesn’t involve losing anything but gives dual nationality, in the case France anyway, don’t know about elsewhere.
Salut, David
Just my plan, all I need now is a Maple leaf flag of similar size to my Union flag to hang on my sleeper curtains. And a bug shield fitted to my truck when I get it in a few months. I’ll be running team for a while, so dual nations decorations will wait until I get my own. Union flag and Canadian one on the sleeper curtains, and a big English flag inside the sleeper.
Sing “Oh Canada” in french as well? Merde… Je parles les Francais comme un vache espagniol…
Oh, Spardo, maybe flying the tricolor will help with those border guards if you get a dodgy load? Here’s hoping anyway.
