Hi All,
The Illinois Tollway Authority recently reduced the speed-limits on the approaches to Cash-Boxes.
This is in response to several recent accidents, some of them fatal.
On Saturday, a big-rig went airbourne and landed on a Taurus, killing a pregnant woman, along with her infant child, on the “Tri-State” Tollway. Fortunately, the other three in the vehicle managed to get out alive.
I’m pretty sure that the cops are now going to start radar/laser at the boxes in an effort to protect the workers.
Jim.
caveman:
also you can be nicked for speeding if you arrive at the toll booth and the gendarmes are checking the tickets if you arrive too soon
does this happen over there as well

Hi Chris,
I know that they have done it in Kansas. I guess that other states have the capability of doing it, too. However, most cops are to be found hiding behind bushes and trees, over here.

There is an automatic radar at the toll booth of the NY State Thruway where my company is located. They mark the EZ pass lane as being “5 mph”, and if you go over either 15 or 20, they will send you a “warning”. Get too many of those and they’ll take your pass away. I know-they sent me 5 a couple months ago before they made their signage legal.
As far as citing drivers based solely on the time on the ticket-Pennsylvania tried that a few years ago, but it didn’t stand up in court, because nobody could vouch to the accuracy of the timestamp on the ticket. This may now be changed, though.
Those toll barriers on the Tri-State were always a mess. Most of them had something like 30 lanes, 15 each direction. 4-wheelers would zoom along and cut in front of you to get to or from the automated car lanes (this was back when you just threw in a quarter for a car), and then everybody would jockey for position before the lanes narrowed down about 1/4 mile down the road. They had one of these things every 7-10 miles. They were such a pain, I usually just drove through downtown Chicago if I was going through. The tri-state didn’t really save mileage or time, especially once you figured in the time wasted at the toll barriers.
on rte 1 and i-95 in delaware there is approach speed of 25 mph to the toll booths. its been that way forever but most people ignore this and fly up anyway.
The Penna Pike and some of I-95 have a 55mph ezpass.
I find that unless you do 5mph or less as you pass through the NY thruway ezpass it will tell you to call ezpass, … Don’t call you get a telling off
