I was robbed in France last month and the ■■■■■■■■ took my passport and the wifes , kids and my brothers so i,m £250 short of passports, The good news is the French Police found everything and are currently beating the ■■■■ out of someone, not a french person as they explained to me in not so nice words ( they know how to treat them) :)…
Anyway my stuff will be sent to the British Consulate soon but the lazy ■■■■■■■■ at the British Consulate apparently cant walk down to the Post Office and put them in an envelope to me they said theres 2 ways i can do this either send in a private courier or get a friend to collect them.
This is where i need your help do any of you work for an international courier company that could possibly help me■■?..
Or are any of you planning on going to Marseilles in the close future■■?..
Theres a drink in it for anyone planning on going that way soon, i would go myself but ,well ,emm , I got no Passport!!!:(:(:(.
And guess what the travel insurance isnt worth the paper its written on they wont pay for anything …
Good to hear you got your gear back. A suggestion !!!
Surely the British Conselate has there own internal mail service from country to country due to secret info etc. Can they not simply add it to that and get it returned to the UK via their system.

.
This sounds a bit strange. I have to renew mine next month via the Embassy in Paris and the standard charge for returning the new one is €5.08. So they can do it.
If I were you I’d get on the blower to someone more senior at the Consulate.
If it’s a problem with sending out of France (registered letter etc.) they can send it to me if you want, I’ll be in Notts at the end of the month.
It is for security reasons that we cannot send the passports on to you by post, but the passports can be collected by a courrier or a family friend if we have written authorisation from you.
You would not be able to travel to France yourself without a passport.
As I said in my first email we will let you know when the items arrive.
This is the only information i have in a return e-mail from them it seems they are just not willing to send them out at all unless i either get a courier or someone to collect them :(.
As afr as I am aware, I shan’t be heading in that direction just yet. Especially as tomorrow morning, wifey and I shall be on the 7am fast ferry to Caen for a weeks leisure down at the ole villa in Brittany :o))))))))))))
WN there are 5 passports down there £250 to replace against about £100 for a courier to bring them home, i think its worth the hassle just to save £150 !!!..
thansk for all the input and help folks as soon as they get from Cannes to Marseilles this could take months WHY■■? i have no idea beuracrecy i would imagine but i have been told that lost property is the bottom of the list for the consulate.
the funny thin gis that the possesions they have recovered will be sent to me by courier at a price of €30 per bag but they WILL NOT accept responsibility for my passports…
As for asking my brother lets just say were not quite talking at the minute.
Wheel Nut:
It is due to the terrorist threat that they will not post passports, when I renewed mine recently it was delivered to my house by courier.
Beginning to wonder about the accuracy of the info given to me by the consulate in Bordeaux now. They have definitely said that I can have it by registered post for just over €5 or by courier for about €15, my choice.
Either way it’s cheaper than driving all the way to Paris, fighting all the traffic, only to find that the bludgers are on holiday (they observe both French and English BHs. Also, if a French BH falls on a Thursday or Tuesday they allways ‘prendre le pont’ (take the bridge), ie. don’t come to work on the Friday or the Monday .
Jammy, I’ve just noticed that you said £250 for 5 passports. Do you only pay £50 for a passport in the UK these days? Ours will cost €107 (£75) . Reckon this will be my last though, the next one will be French . Not the wife’s though, her French isn’t up to scratch. Does that mean we will have a mixed-race marriage? If she doesn’t become a bit more polite, I could have her deported .
I would have thought they are legaly bound to return them to the country of origin as the passport is the property of the queen and not the person named on the passport. All a passport is is a pass to allow you to pass threw boarders unhinderd. Read inside the front cover, and read rule 7 page three
you could ask family friend to take cheap flight to Marsielle, maybe have to stay overnight to collect them
I can post on Courier Exchange for any courier going that way to collect them
(there are at least 2 British couriers living and working in France)
When John was on his long stay over there Mary had good contact with the Foriegn Office, London and the Consul in Marseille. She is willing to phone her contact (it was 1 to 1) in Marseille to ask the best way forward.
I would like to put on record in all our dealings with the F.O. or the Consul we found them extremely helpful and they bent over backwards and often went “beyond the call of duty” as it were when we needed them most
I also have the address, phone, fax and e-mail of Marseille if you need them.
any of the above would have to have your written consent to collect them I would think.
